I enrolled at iti to become a full-time student on a 2 year degree. I finished my first year with NO problems. 100% paid on time. When the 2nd year was to begin covid was just introduced and they opted to go completely remote. I advised them that I had no access to a computer and could no longer attend partly because the teachers and staff were not really to helpful. I advised them I would no longer be able to attend online classes as it was difficult to gain access to the instruction, and I would like to return when we could attend in person. They never aided me in opting out that year and instead marked me as a drop which negatively affected my class grades. Upon attempting to return on our normal agreed Upon terms they are now telling me I cannot return OR transfer my credits until I pay them over $3,000.
In FULL. Considering I don't have a career or a decent job that would be difficult to obtain. I've asked to continue paying bi weekly while I attend school as before and was denied with no help or regards to being a future asset to this country.

COVID was a national emergency that required businesses and
schools to operate in fashions that they had never operated before. Our school
was no exception, as we had to ensure the safety of our students, operate under
new guidelines, and still provide quality education for our students and their
    future employers.
       1. This student started his education in November of 2019. He was successful in that first term earning good grades.
       2. He started his second term 3 months later in February of 2020. It was during this term that the national emergency was declared and our classes became remote on 3/16/2020. This student again completed the term earning good        grades while in a remote setting.
       3. He started his next term in May of 2020. It was during this term that students began returning to school. This student turned in a doctor’s excuse requesting to stay with remote learning due to some health concerns of a family member. He completed this term again earning good grades while in a remote setting.
       4. The student stayed in school and started his next term in August of 2020. His doctor’s excuse was still in effect, as he wanted his classes to stay remote. He did well in two of his classes earning an “A” in both but managed to fail one of his classes due to attendance because his work was not being completed remotely.
       5. He started his next term in November of 2020. He stopped attending class on 12/2/2020 and after numerous contact attempts with no response, we were forced to terminate his training and he received a W or withdrawal in both of his classes.

       6. We performed a Return to Title IV calculation. This is an account settlement calculation mandated by the Department of Education when a student is no longer attending classes and has not earned all of the student loan money that he had already received. This calculation resulted in $2,511.40 of his loans to be returned leaving him with additional costs on his ledger card. Numerous attempts to call him over the next 4 months only resulted in one response on 1/8/2021 where he commented that he would not be paying at this time as he was disputing some things.

As you can see in the above timeline, Covid happened towards
the beginning of this students training and not in his second year as he
claims. He chose to continue being enrolled in school for another 8 months and
completed 3 terms earning good grades while in a remote setting partly because
ITI was forced by guidelines and then because the student had a doctor’s note
requesting he stayed remote even though his classes were being taught in
person. There are no records of him commenting that he had no access to a
computer and his grades for the two and a half terms he was remote would
indicate that was not the case. The student was not completing his work in his
last term enrolled and after numerous contact attempts with no response, we
were forced to terminate his training. The resulting balance on his account has
gone unpaid on for 3 years now even after numerous phone calls and debt letters
were sent to the student. The student has recently inquired about returning to
school and was informed about the balance that has been ignored for the last 3
years. This balance needs to be paid before we can consider him for re-enrollment.

Many of the students that started at the same time in
November of 2019 went on to graduate and work in their field at companies such
as ******** **** ** ******, and ***. This indicates that quality instruction to
teach the skills and knowledge needed to get good jobs was still going on
    during this time.

My husband took one semester at ITI for HVAC. Due to a high risk pregnancy complications and pre term labor he has to withdrawal from his second semester. After informing the school they have now harassed us by calling multiple times a day myself and my husband to collect a fee that they can’t explain what the fee is for. I explained to them that I didn’t appreciate being harassed and would pay the fee if I knew that I was paying. They can’t explain to me what is for and now threatening to send us to collections over a fee they can’t explain.

When a student does not complete a term and withdraws from
school, a Return to Title IV (R2T4) calculation is done to determine the amount
in grants and loans that must be returned to the government. The student is
charged for the days or weeks they did attend school and at times they do not
have enough Title IV funds to cover the remaining balance due to the R2T4 calculation and
return of money. In this student’s situation, they had a small balance that was
not covered and due to the school. No extra fees had been attached to this
student’s account. Outreach efforts have been conducted since his departure to
    attempt to satisfy his debt.
