      Today, June 1st 2023 I rented an air compressor and 90lb jack hammer from **** * ***** who is employed at AAArentall in Hammond. The invoice number is 422269-7. (Initially I sent a helper with my credit card but they said the card and drivers license had to match so I went in person to rent the equipment).

      When I got the equipment to the job I discovered they sent the jack hammer without a tip. When I called they said they forgot to include one and that we had to go back to pick one up, so we did.

      Once I finally started on the job the jack hammer did not work. I called and they told me to "put oil in both ends" which I did but it still did not work so I sent my helper to rent a jack hammer from somewhere else while I returned the compressor and jack hammer to AAArentall.

      They tested it and confirmed that the jack hammer was faulty and not working. I explained that, not wanting to waste any more of the workday, I had rented functioning equipment elsewhere and asked for a refund as the equipment they had rented me was not working.

      They refused to give me a refund and said their policy was to charge me for a 4 hour rental, even though they admitted the equipment that they rented to me was not working.

      I have wasted time, gas and money for equipment that did not work. I would like compensation and believe that they should revise their policy regarding charging for equipment that is not working.

      Our records show Mr. ****** renting from our Hammond location on 6/1, but his version of events do not match the version recorded by our store manager.

      Below are the notes recorded by our store manager on the day of the rental:

      CUSTOMER TOOK EQUIPMENT FOR 2HRS, BROUGHT IT BACK STATING THE BREAKER DID NOT WORK, I TRIED TO SETUP THE EQUIPMENT TO TEST IT, CUSTOMER BECAME VERY ARGUMENTATIVE. I EXPLAINED TO HIM WE HAVE TO TEST THE EQUIPMENT TO DETERMINE THE ISSUE. HE JUST KEPT SAYING GIVE MY MONEY BACK. I HOOKED EVERYTHING UP TESTED THE BREAKER, NO ISSUE, HOOKED A SECOND BREAKER UP TO IT NO ISSUE. EVERYTHING WAS IN WORKING ORDER NO ISSUE. I EXPLAINED TO HIM HE USED IT FOR TWO HOURS PER THE HOUR METER AND COULD NOT ISSUE A FULL REFUND BECAUSE #1 THE EQUIPMENT WAS NOT FAULTY AND #2 HE USED FOR 2HRS PER THE HOUR METER.
      CUSTOMER STATED HE WILL DISPUTE THE CHARGES AND GET HIS MONEY BACK ANYWAY.

      Occasionally equipment we rent out may malfunction, and in these cases we provide working equipment, store credit, or a refund.  However in this case we could not identify a problem with the equipment, and during the process of testing the equipment Mr. ****** notfied our manager he would dispute the credit card charges anyway, which ended the discussion.

      Mr. ****** has disputed the charges, which will likely result in a full refund for him.  Our goal remains to make a successful rental each time a customer rents from us.  With regards to this matter, there is nothing else AAA can do at this point.

      I am rejecting this response because: The response is untruthful.  The breaker supplied to me did not work when the manager hooked it up to the compressor.  When he tried a second breaker from their inventory it did work demonstrating that the problem was with the breaker I was given and not the compressor.

      I would have no incentive to drive from Mandeville to Hammond to rent equipment that I needed, drive it back to Mandeville and then drive immediately back to Hammond to return it if it was in working order.
