I am a woman who is paralyzed from neck down. On 1/29/25 ****** **** - (OWNER) of Helping Hearts med. trans. called me about my ride to a dr. appt. on 1/30/25. She said she didn't allow animals in her vehicles. I told her my dog was a service animal with a license. She said she owned her own business and she wouldn't allow animals on the van. I told her it was a federal ADA law and she had to. She refused my ride without taking time to talk to an attorney, google, or looking at the law books. By doing this it left the transportation less than 24 hrs to find another ride. So in fear of losing my specialty dr. or being fined for no show I rescheduled my appointment. Then I called member service of my insurance and filed a grievance, then transportation and filed a grievance and rebooked my appt. By grace I was able to be seen on 2/4/25 and not a month later.
On 2/12/25 the grievance board called to say they talked to her and she knows she has to take animals. I asked if that was it. She said yes. I feel this is why ****** dismissed me and didn't take me to my appt. because she knew nothing would happen to her. She knows she can continue to abuse the ADA laws because no one is holding her accountable.
By law I don't have to say anything about my dog or my medical, but I've given transp. the knowledge I have one so no one with allergies are put on the van, but she didn't have the same courtesy to check the law before not taking me to a dr. appt.
