The local Dollar General district manager contacted me yesterday afternoon and had the store refund the money that was wrongly charged to my debit card at that store.
Constructive criticism for that store and Dollar General:
    1) Fix the issue with that self-checkout. Other people online have complained about having issues with the self checkout at that store.
    2) There needs to be one employee at the front of the store at all times to supervise self-checkout,
the way every other retail outlet does.
    3) Every store needs to have a working phone system, and employees should make every
reasonable effort to answer the phone and return missed calls that have messages left on the store's answering machine about urgent matters.
    4) Management needs to communicate with customers within a reasonable time frame when an issue occurs such as the problem I had, and needs to make fixing such issues an immediate priority. The store manager should have contacted me Tuesday like she said she would, and at least let me know something.
Emails sent to DG corporate headquarters about urgent matters should not be ignored either, and when a Customer Service Rep at corporate headquarters tells a customer that a District Manager will contact them within 24 hours, it needs to happen. Customers who have unauthorized charges or other serious issues need to have these issues resolved as soon as possible. We shouldn't have to go through BBB every time there is a problem.
I realize that these changes would cost DG a bit more money, but I imagine that they probably already lose a fair amount to customer dissatisfaction, and also to theft because no employee is ever at the front of the store to supervise. Even if prices go up a bit, DG needs to do these things at the bare minimum for better customer service.
Thank you once again to BBB for your help, and thanks to the District Manager for doing the right thing.
