Went to order a cover for our church van. Asked the lady in charge to come to the location. She did measure the height of the van, but never measured the length. When they to install the van cover, it was 2 feet too short. Now they want me to pay the same price for the 5 feet . I told her I didn't know anything about measuring. She is the one who came and measured and ordered the wrong size.

    Business Response

    To Whom It May Concern,

My name is ****** *******, and I am the owner of G&D Portable Buildings and Carports.  I previously owned 3 of these portable building locations, 2 in Moss Bluff, La and 1 in Dequincy, La.  I closed down 1 of the locations during covid and was never able to recover, and about 6 months ago I sold the Dequincy location, which this complaint is from.  My employee, which is the young lady this complaint is referencing to, is the new owner of the lot and the name has changed, it is no longer G&D Portable Buildings.  But the lady making this complaint did call me about it because she had one of my previous business cards, so I was working with her to resolve this issue for her and the new owner of the dealer lot.

This customer agreed to, signed a contract for, paid for, and received a certain size metal carport.  She did not pay for anything she did not get, nor did she get anything less than she agreed to and signed contract for.

As a dealer lot, we do not do spec outs or measurements.  The lot is a third party per say.  A customer comes to the lot and orders a certain size carport for their needs, we place the order with the manufacture and get paid a commission for that order/sale.  The manufacturer then goes and builds that unit at the customers property.  The lot does not go do measurements or prep work.  Customers come to us with what they need and we order it from the manufacture

After talking to the new owner of the dealer lot and this customer, the young lady did pass by the customers property to help her measure the height of this van, to ensure that she ordered a unit tall enough.  This was only as a courtesy to help the customer due to van height and accessibility.  Once they verified the height, the unit was ordered per the customers request.

The contract shows the size of the cover the customer ordered, which is the size she paid for, and is the size that the manufacturer built.

I explained everything to the customer and she was in complete agreeance that she got what she paid for, but she now wants it 2 feet longer.

I then explained to her, just like she acknowledged that the owner explained to her at the time of purchase, this units comes in 5 foot sections, due to the framing.  So you can't purchase just 2 feet.  The manufacture will cut it to size, but you have to pay for the 5 feet of material.

This customer ordered a specific size carport and once it was installed, she is unhappy with it.  I hate that but you don't just add 2 feet to it after the fact, and then on top of that, expect the dealer lot to take care of it.

I truly hate that any customer is unhappy.  This customer agreed to a size and ordered it.  Now that its built she wants it bigger.  I gave her the options, per the manufacturer, on how to extend it or make it longer.  And she doesn't think that she should pay for the extra 5 feet.
