I went in the night of 6/3 with $20 cash for an order of beignets, a small hot cafe au lait and a cup of water. The woman at the to go window told me twice that it would be $7.50. I rolled up the cash and put it away thinking I got $12.50 back. The next day I went back and realized she only gave me $9.25 back so I talked to the manager and he said she charged me for the bottle of water she gave me. I didnt ask for a bottle of water and she literally told me twice that the total was $7.50, but she apparently charged me for the water without telling me. I thought I was just given it for free. I was told by the manager that I wouldnt be getting my money back unless I can bring back the bottle of water unopened despite the woman telling me I was only being charged $7.50. When I looked over at the woman when the manager went to the to go counter to get me the office number she just started laughing at me. I tried calling the number he gave me and its a fake number.

We are aware of the complaint. We disagree that the customer was overcharged and given things that she did not order. The customer ordered a small ********************** ($3.25) an order of beignets ($4.25) and a bottled water ($3.25). She was charged the proper amount $10.75. She paid with a twenty dollar bill and was given $9.25 in change. We have large menu boards throughout the cafe listing our menu and prices. Bottled water is listed on each menu board along with it's price.

We feel that the customer had multiple opportunities to take a correct any misunderstandings at the time of the sale. She received what she ordered. She was charged the proper amount and we cannot be responsible if she failed to read the menu board or count her change at the time of the sale.

Lastly, she was not laughed away with a fake number. She had conversations with several people that, like me, did not share her view of the transaction.

Cafe Du Monde on ******************************** ********, ** *****. On 5.4.2023 at 8:55AM they did a Bait and Switch scam in which I caught another time at that same location. They tell you one cost then charge you a different cost. When I called it out, they said it was a "Mistake". I talked to the manager which was very young and did not care about my issue. I explain the problem and he did not make it right. I am very upset and asked to get the head manager phone number which he was slow to get this information. So, I called the Dist. Mgr. *** at ************. Told him my issue with Bait and Switch at the Cafe Du Monde. He didn't care and said it was a mistake that they would not fix. People need to know about the unfair business doing at this business and the cover up for their "Mistakes". I had other people tell me the same story about this place as well. This could have bene an easy fix but they didn't want to fix it. I guess this is a way to make more money on customers not paying attention to the details. Sad.

The customer ordered a beverage and asked which cup it was served in. According to him our employee pointed to a larger cup. Our employee states that he mistook the cup that they pointed to. Regardless, the size issue was corrected prior to the purchase. Following the purchase, the customer demanded the missing ounces of beverage he would have gotten in the larger cup. He wasn't very pleasant about it. Our store manager pointed out that the mistake was cleared up prior to the purchase and he had every opportunity to not make the purchase if he thought we were being dishonest. When he spoke with *** he was just as unpleasant. Both *** and the employee apologized for the incident, but the customer wasn't interested in an apology or an explanation. I would think a check of your records would reveal that we have been BBB members for a very long time and that you would agree that we do not need a Bait and Switch program to make sales. I apologize that your organization had to be involved in this.
