I hired Precision Metal to repair a leak in my house and to fix the back awning. They were scheduled to begin in the first part of April and worked randomly off and on. (Meanwhile this area received close to 2 ft. of rain.)
The work performed was poor, causing more damage to my roof. I paid $3,ooo.oo upfront for materials and labor. After I suspended their services I was charged an additional $5,ooo.oo for the awning that was still not completed. When I explained to them I was not paying the $5,ooo.oo they threatened to take the roof off and put a lien on my house. I have pictures and videos of the work performed and the damage my house has received during this time.Business Response

In reference to Mr. *******, we did his house roof prior to hurricane Laura Mr. ******* was very happy with our work and after hurricane Laura had hit we even went and checked on his home because he was not there and out of town and we sent him pictures of his home. December 30 of 2020 Mr. ******* reached out and wanted some awnings, we did install awnings and replace some sheets that were damaged from the hurricane in January 2021 mr. ******* was very happy and we did not hear anything else from him until Sunday, April 21 of 2024 at 10:25 expressing that he had a leak and would like for us to come out and take a look at it that following week it rained nonstop on Thursday, April 25 customer reached out and told us he sealed the roof the best he could and that it looked like he had gotten it taken care of and that he wanted to cancel his appointment for Monday, April 29, 2024 for us to come out and take a look on finding the leak.
On Sunday, April 28 2024. Mr. ******* reached back out to us letting us know he found two more additional leaks that where he sealed the roof. The leak just moved. He asked if we could still have our appointment for Monday the 29th I expressed to Mr. ******* at that time that we had already filled that spot, but it was raining and we had to wait for everything to stop before we could try to seal anything or take any roof sheets off his home because we did not want to get caught in the rain with his roof off his home.
On Monday, April 29 at 6:12 PM Mr. ******* sent me a picture of his back awning had collapsed. It was attached to his eve on his home. This was the awning that we had installed January 2021. He stated to us that he was on his awning, standing on the edge of it when it fell Tuesday, April 30 ******* Spell went out to take a look at the awning. We took a video of Mr. *******’s Eve that came off his home and it was completely rotten. This is why the awning fell.
On Thursday, May 9, I got the quote back on fixing his awning the materials that were needed. The customer stated he would want us to disassemble his awning in the back and repair it replace what metal was needed and install it back at that time. I informed the customer to disassemble it and the metal that he was needing and replacing the 2 x 6 on his eve of his home he was looking at $2300 that was material for his awning and disassemble labor. He also wanted us to try to find the leak on his house roof. We told him leaks are very hard to find, but that our rate is $65 an hour and that we would do our best to find the link, but there is no guarantee that we would locate it, he responded back immediately afterwards saying he would like to move forward with this as soon as possible with both jobs. My response to him was that we could possibly start in the morning. But if you recall April and May, they were very wet we got lots of rain.
So I reached out to him the following morning and expressed that it would be raining we would not be able to come, but our next dry day we would be at his house . On May 28, we had a crew go out and start locating the leak that was our main priority first on May 31 at 6:22 AM. Customer responded that there was still a leak that it was not fixed. I responded to him thank you for the update and that I will try to get someone back out there as soon as we had a dry day and assess what else we could do that day went out and said that we could possibly change out some sheets and replace some screws and valley but we were not 100% sure where the leak was coming from that we needed to remove the metal so we could get down to the shingles. At that time, ******* did express that he would want to remove some of the shingles to see what the issue was and if the wood was rotten underneath, we explained what we would be doing to Mr. ******* and he agreed for us to move forward at that time. I sent him a material list of what materials would be needed and a breakdown of labor, which I will also include in my attachments below. That same day Mr. ******* said he wanted to move forward with that additional repair, I also explained to him that the sheets have been on his roof for quite some time and that there would be some color difference in the roof sheets. He was fine and still wanted to move forward.
We expressed to Mr. *******. We would have to order everything that this could take a week or so he said that was fine and that he had went back on the roof and done some more ceiling just in case if it rain. June 12 I expressed to the customer that we planned on being there to start the install on Tuesday, 18 June June 18. We had a 90% chance of rain and we had to cancel on doing the install that day at that time, the customer was outraged that we had to cancel again due to weather once again I explain to him that we cannot control the weather and that we would do the best we could as soon as it dried up, we did not want to get caught with his roof off and him get further damage From a major leak. June 25 I sent Mr. ******* a message letting him know that they were going to be there that day to start working on his roof. He said OK no problem. Our guys were on the job from June 25 to June 28th replacing roof sheets on June 27th we got a call from our guys and said it was storming that they had to put a tarp over Mr. *******‘s roof due to a storm that moved in fast on them. June 28 our guys went to the location and took care of the remaining work from Mr. ******* to his roof. They let us know that they felt like they had stopped the leak and that everything was OK. June 28. It was storming that evening. We got a message from Mr. ******* stating that the roof leak was fixed and he was satisfied. He also stated that he did not feel that our guys were capable of doing the awning without us there. We explained to him that our guys do awnings on a daily basis and that they were very capable of moving forward, but if he would like for us to be there when they do it, that was no problem , at that time, he stated that he would not be paying us for the work we had performed. At that time, I told Mr. ******* that he did not have to pay us for the awning because we had not done anything to it at the time that if he could just pay us for the house roof because they had fixed the leak and he was satisfied and he declined this was late in the evening, and my guys had already left the tools and their trailer there. I expressed to him that we would definitely be back to pick up our trailer and tools, etc. July 1 our guys went to hook onto our trailer and get our tools, Mr. ******* message, saying if we did not leave the premises immediately, he was going to call the cops, explain to him we were just there to get our tools and that’s the last ever heard of him until today.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:In response I was happy with my new metal roof what person wouldn't. I talked to them after the hurricane a few days after about putting a awning up and a wrap around walk way after my back porch got ripped off it was a few months later that they actually came and did the work after I told them my insurance was about to drop me. I did contact them about a leak. I worked 3 days myself on finding the leak it didn't move it was the same original leak. I did cancel the appointment and then it rained I called them they said as soon as they could come out they would. About a week later they sent 2 guys out not a crew. They showed up about 3 hours the first day to take my awning down on a Friday. Monday they came back 2 guys and started sealing my roof with great stuff and silicone I know I was there I watched them. They stayed half a day didn't get there till 9 and left a few hours later. I told them 2 guys the leak isn't there I already tried that. It rained a few days later it pored in my house again I texted **** sent pictures they sent the same 2 guys back. They put more great stuff on my roof and more silicone again I was there. They stayed about 4 hours that day. It rains again the leak is still there. I text ****. They send the same 2 guys again I was there. I finally say why don't you take the metal off and look underneath so they did. A storm came they saw it I saw it. So it starts raining they still on the roof trying to poorly cover it. It's now poring in my closet I get the guy he comes in the house looks at it and says I hate to leave you like this. I turned around and he was walking out the house and left. They came back the next day to put my roof back together they said they knew where it was coming from it was my valley they replaced it covered it back up stepped all over my roof and great stuffed it to where my house looked like crap. I let it go I was just happy they found the problem. Then it rains and the leak is still there. I texted **** he said he wanted to come out and fix it I said ok he also said I owe them 3087.80 which I wrote a check and my wife gave it to them the next day. ******** told my wife we were priority just needs to be a sunny day. We wait about a week we get sunny days. I text them are yall coming out they say yes they never show. Something came up. We wait about two more weeks. It's sunny I say. She says they have a a doctor appointment. I text back saying I thought we were priority I know we're not they were on other jobs I see all there other jobs on Facebook I write them a message saying my house is being destroyed yall need to do this job. They contacted me Tuesday telling me they would be out there that day. Again 2 guys came one was the same the other was different they took half my roof off and again a storm comes it pores in my house yet again. ******* tells me they could not match the color i say ok they led me to believe it came from ***** metal it did not. I went and asked why such a color difference ***** told me they haven't been with them in over 2 years. Precision metal finishes Thursday my wife tells me they are done. The work is very poor dings in the metal cuts were crooked foam everywhere and two different colors ******** told me for a 1000 dollars they would fix the metal. I call them Thursday and tell them thankyou for finding the leak but ill find someone else to finish the awning. I had already paid 3087.80 to them i told them were even. They said oh no your paying for the rest **** told me your lucky were going to Colorado or i would come and take it off myself i said ill call me a lawyer and contact BBB on you and let them figure it out. The guys picked up all there tools and even a few of my materials that was on there trailer and left that friday. Monday one of there guys came over sat in my front yard. I texted **** and said your guy is at my house you need to tell him to leave i never said anything about the cops. When I was trying to find the leak myself I was almost done tarping the roof and was on my awning and it just collapsed with me on it. Come to find out my new contractor came out looked at it and told me they knew it was rotten when they put it up he also told me the screws that was in it was to small. The new contractor told me this was very poor quality of work. I got a quote it will take 9122.93 to fix precision metals work. The roof is 3 and a half years old it should not of been leaking and my awning should not of collapsed its poor quality workmanship. I am not satisfied with precision metals response I would like a refund of the money I wasted on them 3087.80Customer Answer

Thank you for your review. We do apologize for the inconvenience that you had with us, we do aim to please all of our customers. We have been out multiple times to make repairs and they seem to be successful. We go a month or so without any problems even with rain and customer said everything is good! Then we get a rain with wind blowing and we have a leak, this is very hard to mimic with a water hose. Customer would want us to make repair in the rain and we have explained that it is not feasible to do so because any adhesive would not stick, we need dry weather, and it is not safe to put our men on a wet roof. In some cases, it takes time to find a leak when it does not always leak.
Thank you ******* *****

I am rejecting this response because:This is a detailed explanation of my effort to work with Precision Metal, my dissatisfaction with the company's response to my complaint, subsequent failure to correct workmanship quality and my inability to enjoy my financial investment in my property. Thank you, *******, for responding to my concerns regarding
leaks in the patio area connected to the carport you constructed.
To recap:
June 21, 2023 – Down payment picked up at my home for
materials and invoice sent per text.
July 17 – Text sent reminding of water line and schedule to
commence work this week. Reply was “we’re hoping to be there Wednesday”. Also
to confirm color choice for roofing and trim material.
July 26 – Loading material, “will at least get the pole set
today and then that way we can build the structure the following day”.
July 26 – No work performed, “extremely hot outside…we did
pick up your materials today, which are on our trailer for the morning…we look
forward to seeing you tomorrow”. .
July 31 – “will be finishing your awning today”.
August 1 – Me “water pouring out where they cut the gutter.
It’s not capped off”. ******* came and replaced the gutter end cap to correct
the issue on August 2.
August 2, 2023 - Final payment
August 24 - After the first rain I contacted your wife with
texts and (3) videos and (1) photo. The response was someone would be out
tomorrow to repair. She appreciated the visual stating” that way ******* can
see everywhere it’s leaking and get it addressed”.
August 27 – More rain, so I sent your wife additional videos
with a text, “can you please repair this leak?” You came over and stated on
August 28 it had to be dry to repair, which is understandable.
September 6 – I was told someone was sent to repair the
leaks and notify “right away we definitely wanna get this taken care of for
you.”
September 13 – Me texting “I wasn’t here the last 2 times it
rained but it doesn’t look like the repair worked”. Sent (5) photos. Response was “will get them over there as
soon as I can”.
September 15 – Rain and still leaking, sent to your wife (2)
videos and (3) photos noting additional areas leaking. Response was “They’ll be
there Monday”.
September 19 – Texted your wife, still leaking but was told
it was repaired on September 6 & 18.
September 25 – You were here to survey the areas of concern.
You stated a different kind of flashing was required which was ordered. You
said you hoped to be back in the morning to install the new flashing.
September 27 – Noticed foam up, can I meet with your guys to
show them areas leaking?
September 29 – Sent (1) video and (1) photo of the leak from
dew on the roof. “******* will be there around 9:30am”.
October 5 – First rain after repairs, better but still
leaking, texted (2) photos.
October 6 – Text from your wife, “******* did go by
yesterday while it was raining and was able to locate the leaks. I believe he
is going to try to go out there Monday or Tuesday to get it addressed!”.
October 23 – Sent a text message to inquire when you’d
return to correct the leaks as it had been 2 weeks without any correspondence
and our last text messages.
October 26 – After this morning’s rain new leaks, texted (2)
photos. Your wife stated she would check with you on your availability to come
by.
October 27 – “Made not of these new leaks and I’m going to
check with Mr. ******* on Monday to see when he can come by to take a look”.
No further correspondence from company as of October 27,
2023.
Upon completion of the construction of the carport and patio
awning I contacted your company consistently to alert you of leaks. There were several weeks without rain, but
there was no effort on your part to address my concerns, unless I contacted
your company with evidence of leaks. During this time, I was diagnosed with
breast cancer requiring surgery and several weeks of radiation therapy in
Houston. I agree there was some delay in communicating with you. However, my focus was on my health, not on my
$8,000 investment. Although there was some delay, your company was contacted
every month for 3 months August, September and October; the leak did not get
addressed to my satisfaction or meet any semblance of a final quality
workmanship product.Sincerely,
