I accepted the April 7th quote from SLLM. When I first met with ***** ******, I specifically asked if he would complete the work without interruption, and he agreed to do so. He did not offer any reasons why this would be impossible.
My request was made because of a bad experience from 10 years ago. That landscaper did exactly what Mr. ****** did - appear and make sporadic reappearances weeks in between.
The work was done from June to September. Not all was done as agreed, I.e., a swale was not created when the yard was regraded and a downspout was not tied to my drain. When I mentioned this, he said it was not necessary. Although this work was being done due to drainage problems. Additionally, twelve large stones were to be placed in my back bed but that too was not done. I texted Mr. ****** and told him to adjust the final billing if the work could not be completed by Wednesday of the next week. He immediately called me and said the work was primarily done. He too said he had to lay sod at a new construction house for listing. He did show up.
In one of the sporadic visits to my house, he removed the dead grass from my lawn; and after another time delay, there was a rain that washed mud into the street and settled in front of my neighbor’s house, He complained, and after I shoveled what I could, I paid $200 to have the remaining mud power washed to the street drain. The neighbor next to him also complained. Mr. ******’s reply was that I was not obligated to remove the mud.
I was told sod was not cut until July or August but was laid in September. This was not communicated at the onset. The remaining 50% payment was noted ‘final, pending sod roll. I have texted Mr. ****** in follow to the sod roll. He replied ‘ okay, 95% of yards do not get rolled’. It was his recommendation to roll the sod when the work was first discussed.
After a second rain (a requirement not mentioned beforehand), I have yet to receive a reply to my last two texts about the sod roll.
