My neighbor and I hired Ouachita Tree Service (OTS) to cut down and remove trees and bushes along the fence row of our shared property line. My neighbor, ****** *****, suggested we hire ***** **** of OTS because she was satisfied with past work that he performed for her at her home at *** ****** *** *** **** submitted a written proposal (dated 5/20/2024) which specified OTS would remove trees and bushes, haul away debris, etc. **** ***** and I agreed to share the cost of the job, which Mr. **** agreed to do for $5,400. We needed a skilled, well-equipped tree service like OTS to remove a large tree with a codominant stem, which presented a risk of splitting, falling, and destroying my shed and **** *****'s house. At no time did we discuss simply pruning this tree. All paperwork from Mr. **** specifies "removal" of the tree. I had to go out of town for a few days and left a check with **** ***** ($2,700 payable to OTS) to cover my half of the job, in the event OTS did the work while I was away. OTS did start work while I was out of town. They removed bushes along the fence line, but they did not remove the trees. They only pruned the largest tree. They cut off one of the codominant leaders. They left the second huge leader hanging over **** *****'s house, rendering the tree an even greater danger to her house. The wound will never heal near the fork where they cut off the large leader, and the unbalanced tree leans more heavily than ever over her roof. OTS failed to cut and remove about three feet of the trunk of a second tree that they were supposed to remove. Even though the job was not finished, Mr. **** somehow convinced my elderly neighbor to pay him in full. When I got back to town, I phoned Mr. **** and requested that he finish the job. He promised to meet with me several times but never showed up for prearranged meetings. He has not responded to a letter or email. OTS needs to finish the job or issue a refund for failing to complete the work.
