I no longer trust ******* of West Cork Auto. We first noticed a leak under the car about 8 weeks ago. There's a plastic cover under the engine, it was hard to see . I checked the engine oil every few days, the level stayed perfect. The transmission dipstick was inaccessible. So we took it in to *******, our mechanic of 20 years. "Needs an engine oil pan", he said, "checked all the fluids", he said. The pan came in and got done. Gave me a very high **** ($730), said it was because he had to move the motor mounts to get to the pan, oh, and by the way the transmission pan is starting to rust out. Bummer I said, did you check the transmission fluid. "Yes, I checked the transmission fluid" he said. For the next 25 days we maybe drove 500 miles. We thought maybe it was still leaking but it was hard to tell since where we parked there were already stains on the asphalt. I checked every time I drove, it wasn't getting any worse. The next day I got in the car and the transmission was slipping. Drove around the corner to West ****. *** put it on the lift, took off the plastic cover and you could see transmission fluid on the bottom of the corroded transmission oil pan. It was down 3 quarts. *** had a difficult time unscrewing the bolt that held the dipstick, like this was the first time in 8 years that it had been removed.I called some other local mechanics. Transmission pan for my 2014 ***** CX-5 Touring 2.5L was going to cost me $400, similar what they would charge for an engine oil pan, they said. One mechanic said he could get it in a couple of hours and do it today.I rescued my car from West **** but not before having to pay another $177 for an hour of labor and fluid. Yesterday I confronted *******. Told him he it was not true that he had to move the engine mounts to do the oil pan and he could not have, on 2 different occasions, actually checked the transmission oil, it would have *** down.
