Dr. ******* from ****************** told me in a 2nd opinion meeting, that he thought I should have a cell structure test done, but it could cost upwards of $1000 and may not by covered by insurance. There was another doctor in the room as well, so there is a witness to the fact that I told them twice that I would not pay or follow through with any testing that was not covered by insurance. He understood and told me not to worry because if it is not covered, the testing company would absolutely contact me to find out if I wanted to proceed.I then received a letter from my insurance company that they would not cover the testing.2 weeks later 2/13/25 I received a letter in the mail from Foundation Medicine stating that I needed to fill out a Designation of Authorized Representative so they could get this $5800 bill paid. They claim they preformed the testing on 2/6/25 and when ask, they claimed Dr. ******* ordered the test and when I asked where they got the sample, they acquired a 6 month old blood sample from my ***************** Dr. ****** ***** at the ******************* in ************. I assume Foundation Medicine contacted the ************ and told them Dr. ******* ordered a test and they need a blood sample. I did not authorize this nor was I notified of any of this.If they weren't afraid that I would refuse the test wouldn't they have requested I provide a fresh blood sample. Also if this was legitimate why would they not have gotten one of the many much more current blood samples I had given at the ************, including the one on January 2nd 2025. This has to be breaking several HIPPA Laws, as well as not being Ethical and probably not legal. I am not paying for this I did not authorize this and I am mortified that they are allowed to go to my oncologist office and acquire a blood sample - how many people are they doing this to?I want this billing reversed as I am not paying for it.

We will respond directly to the person who submitted the complaint.  As a HIPAA covered entity we are unable to provide details through the BBB to address the complaint.

Unfortunately it seems that we have an incorrect duplicate account which caused a delay in receiving this complaint.  Any further correspondence should be sent to:

This Foundation Medicine needs to be investigated for running unauthorized tests and then trying to bill a patience then try to have me sign forms without even providing the amount that they are claiming I owed.  All my insurance and personal information was on this form that I was encouraged to sign but they didn't have access to the amount they were trying to collect, or did they intentionally leave it off?  They knew enough to tell me that my insurance company refused to pay the testing (that they were only supposed to be getting preapproval for), and the cover letter states that they would help me to get this bill paid but again excluded an amount, I would guess that they did that as to not raise any concerns before someone signs their paperwork.   Old people, sick people aren't paying attention like I did, I have to wonder how many people just sign forms but didn't pay attention that their tests were not authorized by the patient or the Doctor either.

This test, as every other test I have had done, needed to get preapproved by my insurance and Foundation Medicine did not get preapproval or any approval to runs these tests.  The worst part is... even if I or my doctor authorized these tests which we did not, Foundation Medicine used 6-month-old biopsy samples which is irresponsible and unethical when a cancer patient is trying to get answers.  They were not even concerned with having fresh samples they only want to get the test done, any way they could in order to set up this billing.

I will sign whatever HIPPA releases I need to enable the BBB to further look into these questionable practices.

      Regards,

      *****

I was called at home by a representative of Foundation One. My doctor had told me about them so I wasnt surprised to hear from them. I was lied to, I was told by this representative that if my insurance did not cover the test I would only have an out of pocket responsibility at the most of four hundred dollars. Had she told me my responsibility would be thirty five hundred dollars I would not have agreed to let them test. I have held up my side of the agreement and paid four hundred dollars. When you agree to something verbally on the phone and later you come to realize you have been scammed by a company who is taking advantage of people who are fighting for their lives, it just makes me want to throw up. Its wrong on so many levels. I belong to a cancer website and others are dealing with their insurance (same as mine) not covering the testing from foundation one. Which tells me they knew in advance my insurance wasnt going to cover it.
