How I rue the day I chose PrepScholar from the many options available to improve my daughter's somewhat-disappointing SAT score. I ignored little alarm bells. To pick one example, their offerings page says "We recommend at least +/-40 hours of study before your test." Plus or minus forty hours? These are the language experts? Second example, my daughter had already scored a 750 on the language part of the SAT. That's in the 99th percentile. But PrepScholar's "SAT Diagnostic Report" showed her language skills somewhere below the 50th percentile. That's a BIG difference, and should have been the end of our involvement. But the idea of a website that finds your academic level and gives you work tuned to your exact needs was very appealing, so we stuck with it.Well, my daughter did exactly what PrepScholar recommended, exceeding the recommended 40 hours of study. Result? Her language score went DOWN 30 points. Her overall SAT score went up exactly 10 points. Just taking the test again, with no preparation, would almost certainly have shown at least a 10 point improvement. What about PrepScholar's "160-Point Guarantee"? Read the fine print. Very few folks will meet all those conditions. I asked for my money back anyway, and the answer was, predictably, "no".

Hi ***, Our SAT score guarantee terms are displayed on our SAT terms of service page at ********************************************************************. We took a look in your daughter's account and can see that she only mastered three skills, paused one, and completed two practice tests. In order to improve their proficiency on the topics covered by the SAT, we require that students either master each topic or attempt it enough times for the topic to be paused (if the student is unable to master the skill), in addition to completing the assigned practice tests. The process of interacting with our content is what helps students improve their performance on the SAT. If a student only completes part of the program, we would not expect their score increase to be as significant as somebody who completes the program. All the best, PrepScholar

We are very disappointed with this company/program. Prep Scholar offers a money back guarantee if the students ACT score does not improve by at least 4 points. We spoke extensively with a representative before purchasing this program. We gave him the date of the ACT and he explained the program consisted of approximately ***** hours of content, which he assured would be more than enough time to master each skill level. My son studied for nearly 70 hours and was still only able to master 7 of the 52 skills. Not only did his ACT score not improve, but his science score actually went down. We spoke with a representative and we were not eligible for a refund. Please do not purchase this program.

We're sorry to see that your son's score didn't increase as much as you'd hoped. We took a look at his account and can see that he mastered 11 of 52 skills, and paused 8. In order to improve their proficiency on the topics covered by the ACT, we require that students either master each topic or attempt it enough times for the topic to be paused (if the student is unable to master the skill), in addition to completing the assigned practice tests. We explicitly do not require every student to master every skill to account for the fact that we serve students of various skill levels. In our in-program FAQ, we indicate that passing a quiz typically requires 90%+, but the actual thresholds for promoting from core to advanced and advanced to mastery are slightly below that level. Attempting a ****** three times, without passing, causes the ****** to be paused. The reason we have this requirement is that the process of interacting with our content is what helps students improve their performance on the ACT. If a student only completes part of the program, we would not expect their score increase to be as significant as somebody who completes the program. All the best, PrepScholar

I explained to the company that my teenage son said it hasn't been helping him so he stopped using it and the company would not refund the money even though it hasn't helped or prepared him better. They would rather see him work his **** off by himself to improve his score and keep our money. Horrible service provider

Hi Nisha,Our free trial period terms are displayed on our SAT terms of service page at https://www.prepscholar.com/sat/s/terms. The free trial starts upon submission of the diagnostic test and ends 120 hours (5 days) after. I took a look at your son's account, and it looks like his diagnostic test was submitted on July 15th, and so the free trial expired on July 20th. Since your request to cancel was submitted on August 8th, this falls beyond the free trial period, and so we are unable to ***** a refund. Your PrepScholar account is good for a full year, so your son is free to continue using it as much or as little as he wishes, and if he doesn't get the 160-point improvement after mastering all of the skills tested on the SAT, we'll be happy to refund him as long as he meets the terms of the refund. Sincerely, PrepScholar
