  # Disappointing Experience with ALLIED VAN LINES / MARATHON MOVING, CANTON, MA I'm extremely dissatisfied with the service I received from ALLIED VAN LINES / MARATHON MOVING, CANTON, ** during my recent cross-country move. Despite their promises of careful handling and secure transportation, the most important box containing my entire life's belongings and family heirlooms went missing/stolen while in their care.# Specific Issues - Missing/stolen box: The box contained irreplaceable family heirlooms, essential documents, and sentimental items.- Poor communication: After the incident, I had difficulty getting updates or responses from the moving company.- Unprofessional behavior: The movers solicited tips explicitly, making me feel pressured into giving them $70 each.- Emotional distress: The loss of my belongings has caused me significant emotional distress, knowing that my entire life's memories and family heirlooms were in that box.# Company's Response - Initial response: The company's initial response was dismissive and unhelpful.- Follow-up: They eventually offered a $250 compensation, which is an insultingly small amount considering the value and sentimental significance of the items lost.- Lack of empathy: Not even a phone call to apologize for the loss and distress caused. The company's silence and lack of empathy are appalling.# Financial Consequences - Replacing important documents: I'm now responsible for replacing essential documents, including passport card, SS card, title of my vehicle, title of my apartment, insurance papers, and financial records. This will incur significant costs.- Additional expenses: I'll also need to pay for other expenses, e.g., certified copies of documents, notary fees, and administrative costs in which will cost me at least $2500

  This business should not be trusted and consumers need to be informed. We used Marathon in ********** to move our household from ********** ** to ******* **. It was a significant and very expensive move. We were moving many very expensive items. Less than a week before the move date, Marathon informed us that some company called *********** would move us and NOT Marathon, the company we had the contract with. The move was unprofessionally managed and delayed due to the absence of a crew. Worst of all, the mover showed up at our storage unit and entered without authorization and against our instructions and agreement. They threw our goods into the unit in a manner that makes it unsafe for us, did not provide the inventory and failed to allow us to inspect. Also, everything we were able to see was damaged which leads us to expect many more damaged items. We witnessed an expensive table dropped onto the pavement and they refused to pay for even that damage as well as our refrigerator. Marathon refused to correct this failure to honor our rights. They referred us to Allied and now we are at the point that we will incur legal cost and may end up finding out there are many more damaged or even missing items. This has been a horrible experience and is costing us so much money. I would not advise anyone to use this company for any move.

  We had a horrible experience with this company, Marathon Moving *** based in **********. They were hired to pack up our home and move us from one MA suburb to another. As any busy family, with working parents would understand, moving is incredibly stressful, and we failed to remember to remove our children's wallets from their desks and dressers before moving. We had a million other things to think about. When our furniture/boxes arrived at our destination the children's wallets were missing and have never been found. Money from birthdays over the years, first communion, gift cards all gone - a significant amount of money. It is 100% confirmed that the wallets were in the desk and dresser in two different bedrooms. To hire a company to pack your cherished personal belongings requires a significant amount of trust and money. We felt completely violated by this act. I would not trust them and have spread the word that they should be avoided at all costs. We have since filed a police report, and when I called to discuss this with the owner she became combative and incredibly unprofessional. She wouldn't even let me speak. Awful, Awful. Besides this incident, items were thrown into our boxes in such careless ways - spices spilled, plants thrown in upside down, curtains crumbled up into *****. I don't care what this owner's response is to my review... this is the true story and must be shared, and yes, it is referring to the company here in MA, in ******.
