We contracted with Boston Iron Works to replace the iron railings on our front landing. On September 22, 2022, we received an estimate from the company for $1400 to replace the railings. The company offered a 2 year warranty on the work in writing. September 28th: we mailed the signed proposal and $700 check (50% required deposit) to the company. October 20th: 2 railings are installed. The same day we emailed the company asking the owner to contact us to discuss our concerns. During the installation, the crew drilled new holes into the landing bricks (they were supposed to use the existing holes) to install the new railings. They left huge cement rings where the railing posts go into the bricks (pictures attached). In addition to destroying the existing bricks, they tracked cement all over the landing and the grass in front of the landing (which we cannot wash off). Three days after installation, both railings had significant rust (pictures attached). After many unanswered emails and phone calls to the company, the company owner (*******) finally came to our property on November 8th to review the work. He immediately acknowledged that the workmanship was extremely poor and that the railings needed to be removed, sandblasted, repainted, and reinstalled . He assured us that he would replace the damaged bricks with bricks that were matched in color. We agreed that a supervisor (***** - the one who had given us the original estimate) would be present to supervise all the work. ******* indicated that he would email us this plan (so we would have it in writing) and this entire conversation was captured on RIng video. November 16th: follow up email sent to the company because there's no response from them. Left a voice mail 4 days later. November 25th: another follow up email sent. As of today (December 1st) we have not received a written plan for repair, the railings/bricks have not been repaired, and no money has been refunded to us.
