Friday April 11, 2025, I phoned College Hunks to set up a move scheduled for Monday April 14, 2025. I realized late Friday that financially I may not be able to do the move. So, I phoned Saturday, April 12, 2025, and spoke with a call center *** inquiring about payment plans because I did not wish to cancel. I received a text message Sunday April 13 regarding the arrival time. I text back and asked if there was a payment plan available because I don't think I'll have enough to pay for the move. They became rude and seemed frustrated with me and took it upon themselves to cancel the move while I was in the middle of making changes in an attempt to bring the cost down. I asked if I changed locations, it was originally supposed to be from my home in ****** to a storage facility in ********, about some 30 miles away. There is a storage facility across the street from where I lived so I asked if I changed the destination to that location would that make my bill cheaper. They said no. I thought that if used the office closer that it would help cut cost so I informed them that I would call the Worcester location since they're closer, but then the person said they **************** are the ones who services' Natick, which I later found out was not true. I then asked if I could just hire labor, and use my own truck, they said I would still need to pay for truck and travel. I informed them last time I used their services I just hired labor and they kept saying I would have to pay for truck and travel. It was during that exchange that my reservation was canceled, then later reinstated. I was so offended by the person's rude behavior and blatant lies that I decided Monday to cancel and make other arrangements. I called the call center on Monday April 14, to request a refund for the $99 downpayment, the call center *** sent a message to the ************** and they in turn text me and refused to refund my money while also informing me that I wasted worker's time by canceling.Business Response

I'm sorry the client is upset, however when a client books a move, especially short notice, it reserves the truck and crew for that day an in the event of a cancellation covers the wages for that crew to show up as be sent home as we are required to pay someone a minimum of 3 hours when they are scheduled in. Once a client books it prevents anyone else from being able to take their place and does not give the company the chance to find an alternate move in little to no time. This is why our moving paperwork that is emailed to the client clearly states that the within 14 days the $99 deposit is non-refundable.Initial Complaint

-My couch wasn't wrapped properly, even though I expressed a concern about this couch being taken care of when booking the move as it's an off-white color. I have moved four times with this couch and never had an issue until this move which resulted in the wrapping tearing and the couch getting stained. We hired different movers to unload the stuff out of storage, so I can't say for certain who damaged the couch, but had this been wrapped properly it wouldn't have been an issue. The couch has been minimally wrapped and didn't even have all the surface area covered.-We bought moving blankets from **** after being informed we can return them for 50% of our money back. Otherwise, we would've bought our own blankets at a much lower cost. We explained our move is to ******* and we were assured the blankets could be returned to any location and there was not a time limit on how soon we had to get them back. A few months later, our move is complete and we show up to the office in ******* and can't get in. We called the **** phone number and was told the blankets are property of the Boston location and we have to speak with them about the return. I have made two calls and requested a follow up twice over the last month and **** refuses to call us back, leaving us stuck with these overpriced blankets, which is a direct contradiction of what we were assured before purchasing them.Initial Complaint

The worst business Ive ever dealt with. I hired them for junk removal and a move the next day. They never showed up to take the junk. They kept calling with excuses until they just stopped calling. The manager said he would make it right by having the movers also take my junk. I expressed concern over having enough room. *********************, manager, stated that he would send a 26ft truck. He also stated that for my aggravation ( there motto is have a stress free day) he wouldnt charge me for the junk and it would mean a great savings for me. Two moves showed up with a truck half full of someone elses junk. So they paid for the junk removal and I did as well, illegal? They needed to make two trips, which I was charged for, because of another one of their s**** **** One of the movers wasnt strong enough to carry my furniture. He kept dropping it, damaging my hardwood floors and walls. I ended up paying three times what I was quoted. ************ said he would call me to discuss it which he never did. He will only communicate through email or text. The national company number is useless. Please dont ever hire them for your move. Then because I left a bad review they are demanding $99 more!!Initial Complaint

College Hunks packed our belongings, the actual amount was more than double the estimate. We told them to use blankets ONLY to protect our leather couch, use packing paper for boxes. They used over 50 blankets and charged for each. We are left with them. We had lots of damage, I filed a complaint & never heard from the local office. I have about 100 pictures of mispacking, blankets, delicate items packed with nonfragile items (pottery with books, bar glasses with scissors, etc.). If they had returned my call & followed up on over charging, damage and mispacking, I wouldn't be filing this claim.Customer Answer

I used College Hunk junk and movers to move to another town. I have expensive pieces that were damaged and items missing. Here is a list of damaged items:A large boat painting canvas was ripped in two spots. Paid $2,500 for it.My ********** was broken off its stand and the picture has lines going through it. Paid $550 for it. A Clock my grandmother bought for me when she was in *******. One of the ***** numbers is missing. She paid over $2,000 for it.A over the door mirror/ jewelry box attachments were missing. Paid close to $200. A glass jewelry box totally broken. Worth $50.A night table drawer was missing. Paid over $200.A water color 8x10 picture the glass was broken. Paid$150 Missing: a three rod iron throw rack worth $100 A stand up rod iron lamp. Worth over $200 A rod iron coat rack worth over $100 I talked to the company multiple times and they only want to give me a little over $200. They never gave me a paper receipt. The move cost around $2,700. They said I should have signed up for damages. That was never ever brought to my attention. The fellows that worked the day of the move I was told they were temporary workers. I am horrified and very upset about my damages and missing items. I asked for a reasonable price of $3,500 given to me but they refused. If they continue to refuse I have no choice but to bring the company to small claims court. We hired College Hunks (in ******) to pack our belongings and load our 28' ABF trailer. I have contacted *************************** (the coordinator) regarding the following complaints via text (on Aug 1), providing pictures. He did not respond. I sent a detailed email on Aug 15 (with more pictures): I requested the franchise owner be looped into this case and clearly indicated that financial reimbursement would be necessary (and would still fall short of the damages). I have received no responses from **** since our invoice was paid (on July 20). Here is a summary of our complaints:Despite ****'s home visit, he severely underestimated the amount of trailer space we would require for our belongings. It was not until ~1.5 hours before the trailer was to be picked up by ABF that we were informed that we were out of space. As a result, we had to leave many high-value items behind (with no time to realistically attempt resale). I can provide a full list of these items when space is not constrained.The movers did not use many of our moving supplies, as instructed, before using the material for which we were charged. We had to leave behind 5 Sterilites, and then pay an additional fee to have the team haul away the unused packing material (as junk). Many boxes were SEVERELY underpacked. Many of the boxes and our new Sterilite totes were substantially damaged upon arrival. Many other fragile objects were insufficiently wrapped and arrived damaged including my office bookshelf, jewelry case, and desk hutch. There were only two sets of straps in the ENTIRE 28' trailer. So, our belongings collapsed into the bulkhead. The moving team here could NOT open the bulkhead doors. Even after they were opened, moving was slow as the team had to carefully excise objects to prevent further damage. Conservatively, we had to pay for an additional hour of work from the team (in IA) because of the errors made in MA. The team leader here called it the WORST packed trailer he had seen.Customer Answer

I ordered junk removal for my storage unit in *******. The unit was a full 5x7 (35 square feet) unit.Upon the arrival of College Hunks *******, I received a call and was told that my things would take up a truck. This is quoted on the website as approx.. $449. Although this seemed like an over-estimation given that it was only approx.. 17 square feet of property, I agreed that they should proceed. Upon completion, I also agreed to a 20 dollar tip. However, my credit card was charged $719.00, without any explanation. I called to complain, I was told that I would hear from a manager. My call was not returned. Three weeks later, I complained via a website and was promised an answer within a week, again no response. All I request it that they refund me the unexplained $290.00 additional charge. This companys behavior is tantamount to stealing.Initial Complaint

I used them on 9/16/22. This was the finalized estimate that they sent me. Inventory: || (2) Dresser || (2) King/Qn **** || (1) Mirrors || (1) Nightstands || (2) *****in ************* || (1) Coff/Sofa Tbl || (6) Sectional Sofa Piece || (10) One Man Boxes || (1) AVERAGE JOB ADDS 15% MATERIALS TO TOTAL COST || (1) ITEMS NOT MENTIONED ABOVE - WILL NOT BE MOVED (Per Liability) || (1) Electric Fire Place ||Hourly Rate: $239.00 Estimated Move Duration: **** hours Truck and Travel Fee: $195.00 Estimated Total Cost: $1,210.75 (including the Truck and Travel Fee)After they were done the final time came to 4 hours so even though it should have been slightly cheaper than the estimated they ended up charging me $1607.00. I've contacted them and they refuse to acknowledge they over charged me.
