      10/10/23 12:00pm after being hit and almost killed by a drunk driver my property inside my car is being held against me getting it. I wasn't at fault, I am not under investigation the police didn't impound my car. I am a completely law abiding citizen that was almost killed by someone that shouldn't be driving to begin with and now after the hospital I am not allowed to retrieve my wallet my jewelry, computer, and cash. I have the claim number for them and my agent called them and they still will not let me have MY PROPERTY and what they are doing is 100% illegal. How can an innocent person lucky to be alive not have the right to retrieve their belongings? i've been on the phone with the police and their and my insurance company my things are going to be ruined by the time this is resolved and its completely unethical. this isn't a repo or impound it is a innocent tax paying law biding person that is having their stuff destroyed and held from them for someone else's actions and their business should have to go by law and not whatever they say goes.

      Good morning.  We have what is called a mechanics lien on all vehicles in our storage lot.  We will allow the owner to pay all charges and remove their vehicle, or if they have insurance, we have some information we need from their insurance company before allowing the owner to clean it out.  We do this because many times the vehicle owner will get paid by the insurance and then abandon their vehicle.  If they don't have insurance, they will get all of their things and then abandon their vehicle.  Mechanics lien is all we have to protect ourselves.  I understand this may be this gentleman's first accident, but I assure you that insurance companies send us letters every day via email and the owner cleans out the vehicle.  This young man's insurance company does not want to send a letter for some reason.  I can only assume lack of coverage.  He called the local police to come here, and they told him the same thing. He is certainly welcome to pay the charges and have his vehicle removed from our storage lot.  We have been in business for over 50 years and our practices are legal.  Thank you.
