    We hired a company to install a basement drain system, but encountered a consistent poor attitude from all their employees, from salesperson to owner. Despite concerns, we proceeded due to their local reputation, expecting competent, safe, and legal work. However, after depositing funds, they unexpectedly handed us a list of additional tasks to manage ourselves, like hiring a plumber and electrician. When questioned, citing 40 years of experience, they denied responsibility for these tasks. For other projects, we used different companies who arranged necessary personnel.The night before work, we found no permit on the town website. Next day, when asked, they claimed no permit was needed, contradicting the nature of the construction. Requesting written confirmation, they refused, relying on their tenure. When escalated to the owner, he initially agreed but withdrew after learning we'd verify with the town inspector, prompting us to terminate the agreement.It's crucial that companies adhere to permit regulations for safety and legal compliance. Regardless of experience, regulatory measures must be enforced for all projects. Additionally, despite a perceived monopoly, there are alternative companies offering similar services at more competitive prices. Don't be swayed by claims of experience; prioritize safe, legal, and compliant work.
