      My husband and I had an appointment this summer, and we were so excited to have a consultation and start the process of family planning. We carefully filled out the pre-visit questionnaire and made sure we were extremely detailed in where we were at and what we were looking to discuss.
      My husband and I will need to utilize donor sperm, so we have not been TTC in the traditional manner...if you catch my drift. We were excited to discuss our options, where to start, and what steps would come next.
      Consultations are virtual, so we opened up zoom and were met by Dr. Hill who jumped in and immediately asked "so how long have you been trying and failing to get pregnant". A little shocked as we had carefully filled out a form explaining and detailing that we had not, I let him know this was square one for us. He replied, "oh, so what are we discussing today?"
      Dr. Hill then realized he should skim the print out of our forms in front of him and in reviewing my stats (age, height, etc) stopped hard when he got to my weight and said "oof. you are on the pretty heavy side so we are going to want to jump straight to the big guns and go full IVF. Unless you can commit to loosing 15-30 pounds, but even then....". I immediately wanted to cry. I am 5'10" and wear a 14. I am fully aware I am not petite, but being told I was too fat to have a baby without "the big guns" was over the top and extremely tactless.
      At this, Dr. Hill let me know that we are going to have to run all sorts of test, so on my next cycle day 1 call to schedule a "probe" on day 3, and the asked quickly "okay, well any questions?" and then concluded the zoom as he was already getting up from his desk.
      In all, our call lasted 8 minutes and we walked away from it feeling pretty shocked, and shamed. This call that we were so excited about ended up being extremely traumatic.
      To add insult to injury, no follow-up was ever made with us and we were sent a $500 bill.
