    This company claims on their website to be "New England's most respected court reporting firm". Well, certainly not by me. I was defense counsel in a deposition conducted in March of this year. Philbin was the court reporting company (stenographer) hired by Plaintiffs counsel. Following the deposition, the Court reporter asked me in an email if I would like a copy of the deposition transcript. At no point was any quote given for a fee. I said yes, and subsequently received an invoice for $270! This was for nothing more than their email forwarding me a PDF (not even an original transcript) that they already had to make for the other party in any event. $255 for the transcript and $15 as a "handling fee". Apparently, it costs $15 to forward a PDF! When I faxed them objecting to this unannounced fee, I got an extremely rude fax back that wasn't even signed by whoever sent it. It made a reference to the fact I had paid for a transcript from ******* a totally different case four years ago. (Mind you that was an ORIGINAL transcript, not a PDF copy and the price was quoted and agreed to BEFORE I bought it, none of which is applicable here). When I tried their "main number" I got an automated voice recording telling me what number I had reached but not the business it belongs to (sort of like a personal cell phone). I've been in this business for the past 8 years. I would not say that billing people fees without first quoting them, sending unsigned communications, being nearly impossible to get ahold of, having a random voicemail that doesnt even identify you on your "main" number, or the subsequent bullying which occurred are consistent with anyone claiming to be "New England's most respected court reporting firm." I have no intention of EVER having any dealings with this company again. Fortunately, Springfield has another great stenographer service that I always use.

    The BBB got a response via email from the business, down below is the response.

    I told Mr. ****** I wouldnt engage further and that I expected payment.

    In 2021, Mr. ****** ordered and paid us for a PDF transcript. In 2025, he feels they are free.  He even offered half ($135.00) after his memory was rehabilitated.  While Im a big believer in the wonderful work the BBB does, I utilize the ****  Thats where Mr. ****** will be reported in thirty days if payment in full is not received.

    I am rejecting this response because:

    The fact I purchased a transcript from this company in 2021 under totally different circumstances (specifically that a price was quoted) has no bearing on the current situation. In this instance, I was asked if I would like a copy and no sum was quoted. I have been treated extremely rudely by this company.
