We had our driveway replaced and now the asphalt is cracking. The driveway is now failing and the cracks keep getting bigger. We reached out to the company that did the work and they are not responding now.

    Business Response

    Date: 06/10/2025

In 2002 we paved *** ******** driveway. In 2007 we had to go back to repair it due to the damage of water flowing beneath the driveway.

In June of 2021 we provided an estimate (attached) and then provided an updated estimate in March of 2022 for $13,500 (not $18,000 as he has stated in his BBB complaint - updated estimate attached). On big hills like *** ********* when you see horrible undermining and meandering sinkages, its water flowing under. This gave me great pause upon my initial estimate in 2021, which I expressed to *** ******** and lead me to write in big letters on the face of the driveway plan and estimate: Water running under. Act of God that may certainly continue despite our best efforts. As our contract/estimate stated: Reading Asphalt Corp. is NOT responsible for heaving, rutting or cracking in wet sub-base or high water table areas that are subject to inordinate frost action and/or ground movement

On April 1, 2025, ***** responded to *** ******** March 31, 2025 email with photos depicting the cracking:
    Hi *****
    That is frustrating.
That ground there is so bad. As we spoke about for the estimate I said the only way to actually stop it would be a major excavation and drainage project, above the driveway, to divert the water around, that the only thing we could attempt is putting rap rock under, to possibly help it from washing out the gravel base.
Thats why I wrote on the estimate, this is an act of god that certainly may continue, despite our best efforts. The old driveway had some of the worst water flow undermining Ive ever seen.
I truly hate to see this happen.  Ill get out there asap and look and see what can be done.

    On May 23, 2025 *** ******* responded:
    *****,
This is more than frustrating.  The driveway is just over 3 years old.  The last driveway lasted almost 18 years, and was in need of replacement due largely to a large crane that was used to cut down some trees in our yard.  As for any issues with water, this was not the reason the previous driveway failed.
It's been almost two months and we haven't heard anything from you. I've contacted two other paving companies, including one that came out and looked at the driveway.  Both have indicated that a year-old driveway should not have issues with cracking.
I need to know how you are going to fix this issue as it is not acceptable that the driveway is failing.
    *****

*** ******** statement about the last driveway lasting almost ******************************************************* 2007. We have been in contact with *** AND Mrs. ******* on multiple occasions via email and phone, since 2022. We also seal coated their driveway for no charge in 2024. An additional service that would have been approximately $1000+ to perform at the homeowners expense.
We are very sorry this has occurred, but we provided multiple warnings in writing and verbally about his driveway and the potential for water damage. Especially after having to repair it in 2007.
