The Computer Science and Information Security Departments sell courses that are not ready for student consumption. Effectively, the product being sold is a 'lemon' and there is no due diligence put forth to make courses reasonably free of bugs. In fact reliance of this testing and "quality control" is solely on the students themselves, the paying customer - who expect (by nature of their purchase) to be given a course and course material (products) that are reasonably free of defects. This is not the case. I would like to see proof that the school performs quality control checks via dated documentation. I would also like to see internal practice documentation that outlines steps necessary for quality control on courses (with due respect to technologies used, website links, etc) performed on classes prior to selling them to students. This action must be done annually at the very least. Or else a 'buyer beware' should be posted for each class not in compliance with quality control checks disclosing to students that 'the course may not be ready for usage and quality control cannot be guaranteed'. The courses not checked for quality control should be sold at a discount, as the product is experimental at best.Without this information, the buyer(student) cannot make informed consent on the purchase of the courses at any given time.Initial Complaint

I was a graduate student at this university. The course schedule ran from 8/ 16/23-11/7/23. I withdrew following the financial aid mandate which by law is set at 65%. The withdrawal calendar starts at 10/4/23 and runs through 10/9/23, which was a holiday. The school was notified by me on 10/6/23 by email that my last day in attendance was 10/7/23. I screen-shotted my posts on 10/6/23 and my posts on 10/7/23. The school ignored my emails regarding my withdrawal. They left my name on both course rosters, **** *** and **** ***, marking me absent. By marking me absent, it looks like I am still actively enrolled and they can award failing grades at the end of the course. Which would be an incomplete and an F. The school was given notice and the Registrar and Financial Aid were contacted. The school gives an I/F, then they can rebill the student and the United States Department of Education for more funding. My balance is zero. This is not a financial aid issue, it is a registrar and bursar issue. They sent a letter stating I had withdrawn but the letter dates are inaccurate. My date of separation was 10/7/23, way before the semester ended. They approved it for December 2023 and the last day of school is 11/7/23. So they can turn around and place failing grades on my transcript and charge me for the same courses again. This relationship is terminated. I am transparent and I do business with transparency.Initial Complaint

University of Maryland Global Campus allowed me to graduate in 2016 after an intervention from you the Better Business Bureau to UMGC on my behalf. I attended the graduation ceremony in May 2017. Now coming to find out today, 07/08/2023 from a Success Coach Team member that my academic records showed as being on Academic Probation and not graduated. I thought the problem with the university has been resolved, unbeknownst it has not. UMGC has been bothering me to review its university but after much consideration, I refused to do so. I finished its biotechnology program but I have failed to secure/find a job, which is very disappointing to me as I worked hard to finish my degree. My request is to have my Academic Records straightening out/corrected as having been graduated and no longer a student/pursuing additional classes. My Academic Record as it is now, it showing as I am on Academic Probation. Thanks!Initial Complaint

Requesting a full refund of classes due to illness Last year, my son was in the hospital for an extended stay and I contacted the Univeristy by email on more than 2 occasions to inform UMGC that he will not be able to do his assignments or pending tests or exams. It took them almost a month to get back to me and it seems they did not inform the instructors in a timely manner. By the time my son got back to classes. There was too much work to catch up. We were asked to provide proof and sent his doctor's official letter. Requested a refund of the 3 classes and was given a partial refund of close to 1 class. Tried to get the money back but UMGC has refused to. We are paying out of pocket and did the right thing when I notified them in a timely manner to prevent what eventually happened. In their own words, "....students may request an exception to the withdrawal and refund policy when special circumstances prevent compliance with the published deadlines." My son being in a hosptital with no access to a PC or phone (doctor's orders) and me contacting them and getting no response, means we are entitled to a full refund and NOT a partial one. We would like a refund of $3,000 Here is UMGC's stance on refun and the exception that we clearly fall into. Learn about UMGC's refund policies for tuition payments. Exceptions to Course Drop and Withdrawal and Refund Policies All students are subject to UMGC policies on withdrawal and refunds. However, students may request an exception to the withdrawal and refund policy when special circumstances prevent compliance with the published deadlines. *************************************************************** NO Phone Calls, PleaseInitial Complaint

I filled out a brief online form indicating interest in this college, but then I emailed them telling them I was not intterested in their programs. They enrolled me and charged this fee, despite confirming they had received my inquiry. This is predatory and along the lines of what we saw with *******, Corinthian, and *******. I did not take classes, I did not send transcripts, I did not interfact with your courses, NOTHING. I will not pay you $50 for an inquiry about your University. That's just fraud. Please confirm that the charges have been cancelled. I'm sure the ********** of ********* would be interested in hearing about this.Initial Complaint

II was notified by Maryland Department of Budget and Managment about a week ago regarding an alleged debt for $870.48. CCU Account Number: ******** CCU Debtor Number: ******** Zip Code: ***** I have reason to believe I do not owe debt for the course in question because I did not attend this class. Please The records and files where is clearly documented I stated I couldn't attend the course listed below. PACE 111 SEC: **** CRS#: ***** LOC: ********** TERM: SUMMER This is obviousley a staff member errors, who forgot to drop my name from the class. I would like to clear name and prevent this UMGC mishap tarnishes my excellent credit. I demand collection activity cease immeditally and the FN grade for this course disappear. If you do not stop collection activity whilst investigating my dispute, you are breaking FCA rules and guidance. Also, ignoring claims that debts have been settled or are disputed and continuing to make unjustified demands for payment is harassment. Please do not make any further contact about the above accounts unless you can provide evidence of my liability for the debt. I request your written response that this matter is now closed. Speaking of harassment and Equal opportunity, I will have no option but to file a complaint about your staff bullying tactics and faculty lack of Equal Opportunity Trainings. I suggest directing resource toward these areas and avoid a major discrimination scandal. I look forward to hearing from you.Initial Complaint

The list of issues and problems with this school begins back in January of 2022. I applied for their undergraduate program and the admissions office failed to process correctly. They stated that it was processed a graduate application and that it was my fault. I should have backed out then. I fought with them for 5 months to straighten out my transcripts which I sent to them in January, yet again they didn't process correctly, and it was blamed on me. I then signed up for 2 summer courses, I completed both with a 60-70% of my class work being completed and was told I never attended my classes and received a WF instead of credit for those classes. Which then they tried to double charge me for the classes saying I owed an extra $2500 which was more than my classes that were paid by my student loans and **** grants. They then took my **** grant for $62 saying they applied it to my summer balance which in fact did not happen. Then I have been battling for 3 weeks for them to cancel my financial aid after I withdrew from the college. They lie and say you have to submit documents which is in fact not true they can cancel it from the cod.ed.gov website by a financial aid admin. They also owe me $3000 in my remaining **** grant that they refuse to send me after I withdrew. This school needs to be shut down and investigate for illegal activity.Initial Complaint

I enrolled in one of two final courses to finish my MBA degree. I was having issues completing course work due to personal reasons. The professor gave me an extension but I needed more time. I recently received an email from the Prof. informing me, since Im transitioning out of the course, I should withdraw from the group project that just started. There is three weeks left before the term ends and shes telling me I failed. The real problem is the universitys policies for assisting students. The policies are rigid and not really meant to help at all. It is just a formality. I now have to decide if its even worth submitting my work due to the fact the prof. has already decided to fail me. And if I dont do anything, it looks bad for me. Ultimately, I would pay to take the course again. There has to be fairer solution.Initial Complaint

I cannot believe UMUC Global Campus is an actual University. I applied in fall of 2015 to peruse my MS degree. I got sick from a medical diagnosis and did my best to continue through the semester. I registered for spring semester and thought once again, I could finish but it was not to be. I withdrew from my classes, well in advance to do so. I never received any mail/correspondence regarding a balance on my account. I got accepted to another University this year and decided to finally complete my MS degree. I completed the spring semester and was told I would need my transcript from UMUC for the Summer and beyond. I contacted UMUC and asked, how do I get my transcript. I was told to apply at the school website/clearing house. After applying for the transcript, I was told a hold is on my account to call a different number. I called UMUC Global campus and was told I have a $8000 balance that needs to be paid before I can get my transcript and I was given the school collections department, which to this day, I cannot get anyone on the phone no matter what time of the day I called. I called back UMUC Global Campus and was told, the money received for my tuition was return to the department of education, so I have to pay UMUC Global Campus the $8000. I contacted the Department of Education and was told, UMUC Global Campus is mistaken. My loan is with the *** and is in good standing. They asked UMUC for copy of the cancel check, I was told it went electronical, so I asked for the receipt. UMUC won't give information to substantiate the reason they're asking for funds that was never return to the department of education. I was nothing can be done for me I must speak with their collections dept. So instead, they decided to steal my paycheck from via my employer. I don't mean some, I mean all of my money they took. That money was for my rent and car payment, insurance. My current school took my loan away because I couldn't produce my transcript. I owe them $15000. WHY?????Initial Complaint

I was registered to attend my final class for my Masters degree with the University of MD global campus in January 2022. Unfortunately I contracted COVID and I withdrew from the class within the first week. At that time I was not notified that any monies were owed. Over the next couple of months I received two calls asking if I planned on finishing up my degree with the University, but due to a move to Georgia in mid May for my job, had decided not to sign back up for my final course until later this year. Today I received a notice from Maryland CCU that I had been turned over for delinquent account. I learned that it was for University of Maryland. I received no phone calls, emails to my home email address on file with the University, or letters to my home address letting me know that I owed a balance. I had made payments on my student loans through June of this year at which time I paid them in full with sale proceeds of my Maryland home. I would like to file a formal complaint against the University for lack of notice of the debt. Under Fair Credit Reporting Act I would like an accounting of the debt, and a reversal of any negative notice to my credit to credit agencies. If in fact I owe the money after review of a statement from UMGC I will pay the debt.
