      Re: Deceptive Business Practices.
I recently asked the canvas team to add a strap to the cover of my front lounge area on my powerboat. The work was neatly and expertly done.
However, the billing process is entirely deceptive. I started the process by opening a work order via the website, and dropped off the cover at the canvas shop. I received an ESTIMATE for the job, clearly marked Estimate Number: E-240xxx. The Terms say "Estimates: This work will be billed as a Flat Rate." Nowhere is there a Price List telling you what the 'flat rate' is for this job. The Estimate was$350, and they required 50% to start, which I paid.
I got notified that it was done, and I got a Pro-Forma invoice that says "APPROXIMATE TOTAL TO DATE: $93.75" with a balance of -$81.25.
They then charged an additional $175, for a total of $350.
The problem is their deceptive practice of saying it is a "Flat Rate" job, but not specifying what the flat rate is. I don't think an "Estimate" is the same as a Flat Rate price statement.

Mr. ************** you for your feedback and the additional details you shared with me via email. I sincerely apologize for the inaccuracy on the pro-forma invoice and the lack of clarity on the estimate. The pro-forma invoices were an enhancement released last month and aimed at improving transparency. In addition to the approximate total to date the document showed the approximate work order completion to be 27% when it was in fact, 100% complete. This led to the underestimation of the balance to date. This error has been resolved.Despite every attempt to be thorough and clear, I can appreciate some confusion regarding the terms estimate and flat rate in our documents. The reason it is called an estimate is because the flat rate only applies to the line-item job and there are fees that could be applied changing the total. Potential fees include mileage and ****** contractor fees that are not estimated or included in the pricing. This is clearly noted in the estimate and the body of the email. These fees were not applicable with your repair, but we use the same form for all the types of jobs we do (T&M, Flat Rate, with travel, without travel, etc). We have updated the language in the estimate form to add more clarity to *******, while the $350 price we charged was exactly the price of the estimate you approved, we were happy to issue a partial refund for the confusion caused by our documentation. We hope the prompt response, detailed explanations, changes implemented, and partial refund adequately address your concerns. Thank you again for the feedback.Regards,Rob

Following discussions, *** agreed to refund some of the charges, and to work on clarifying their 'estimates'.

Hired the company to do some work on my sailboat. Needed to remove shrink wrap from the top of the mast that was jamming my roller furling. Could not get my sail down. They had done the original installation. For some reason they unfurled my sail (not necessary) but instead of refurling, they bunched the sail and tied it to the forestay. Now it's IMPOSSIBLE to get it down and after leaving the sail in that condition all winter (I was in FL) I believe the sail suffered permanent damage. I have written them two emails and sent a picture. They have not responded. They are frequently in the area and could easily come to the boat to rectify the problem, which I requested. By not responding to my emails, I take that as a refusal to accept responsibility.

Hi **** - As you know, out CS team has been communicating with you about this in detail and shared photos of our work that clearly demonstrate that we were not at fault here. In your last response, you acknowledged that it was not our fault, and we kindly asked that you update or remove this review but have not heard back. For readers of this review, below are the last two emails:From Bill, 5/9/25: "Thanks. A mystery. Hoping the fork lift at the yard (all they have) will reach high enough to remove the rope. I really appreciate your response."From our CS Team 5/9/25: "As shown in the photo from our original installation in 2020 (attached), the jib was clearly furled, and there was no need to unfurl it to access or remove the masthead wrap. Photo from the removal work order in 2024 (attached) clearly shows everything at the masthead is run cleanly and free of any other obstruction. The halyard is exiting the sheave box straight to the swivel at the top of the furler extrusion."
