I applied to UMBC for social work but due to having my son in August, I decided to wait a little bit to start school. I never attended orientation or anything at this school. I received a bill for $225 for orientation that I never even went to. I would like that money back due to never stepping foot on that campus and registering for classes.

Honestly, I regret taking the Department of Biological ********* Dr. ***** ******* biology class while I attended UMBC after I graduated from **** with my A.A. and before I graduated with a B.A. in Sociology and a Social Dimensions of Health certificate. She was a terrible professor and I never understood her lectures. Her grading method is very test heavy and she cares about the ***** details of each assignment all the time. She isn't flexible, considerate, and will not listen to students. I'd say to please take anyone else but her if you want a good semester.I don't know what to say. Her rubrics were not specific and when asked about the rubrics, she would direct us to TAs who were also confused. She never responded to emails and would avoid student interactions like it was the plague. We were graded by a few things but they really added up. We only heard from her 3 times via email. I am at lost for words.I'd recommend that UMBC conduct a serious and thorough investigation into the grading methods and practices of Dr. ***** *****. I'd also recommend that she become more flexible and less rigid and unreasonable in her approach to grading and teaching.

    Business Response

Due to specific requirements under state and federal privacy law, the University is unable to respond, with any specificity to this complaint as it would involve disclosure of education records. With that said, the University maintains robust internal, informal and formal complaint processes to address student concerns and complaints regarding their classroom experiences and grades. As in any situation, the University will reach out directly to any student who has concerns about their UMBC experience.

The University's response should not be construed as an agreement with any of the assertions that have been made raised, including but not limited to the course and/or the UMBC faculty member that was identified.

I am rejecting this response because:

I believe that an independent investigation into the practices of UMBC faculty member, Dr. ***** *****.

I had such a terrible experience as a student in her class and I believe that the experience should be shared.

She was the only professor that did not demonstrate enough flexibility for me throughout the course of the pandemic.

    Sincerely,
