Several years ago, Amazing HVAC installed my heat pump and air handler and has been maintaining the system since then. Over time, they regularly recommended optional add-ons like air purification upgrades, but I always felt the quoted prices were quite high. After researching, I decided these add-ons were unnecessary and declined them.
Recently, a technician suggested I replace both the capacitor and contactor—at a cost of nearly $500. I found this surprising, especially since the parts were under warranty and the charge was purely for labor. When I questioned the cost, I was told it covered “processing the warranty claim” and that this is just what HVAC service costs.
Curious, I researched the components and found that they are simple to test and replace at a total cost of $51.76. I bought a multimeter and discovered my capacitor was functioning within normal range (38.34 µF out of a 40 µF rating), contrary to the technician’s claim, given that there less than a 10% difference. To confirm, I hired a second HVAC tech who said the capacitor was fine, and the contactor, while slightly worn, didn’t need immediate replacement.
At that point, I had already bought the parts, so I replaced them myself—in just 30 minutes. Despite receiving an apology from Amazing HVAC phone operator and being told a manager would follow up, I never received a call, even weeks later.
I used to recommend Amazing HVAC as an honest but expensive company. Unfortunately, this experience revealed what I see as a troubling pattern: overpriced services, upselling unnecessary repairs, and a lack of follow-through on customer concerns. If you choose to work with them, I strongly suggest getting a second opinion on any recommended service. However, I would even more strongly suggest finding another company to handle your HVAC needs.Amazing Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc.

*I wanted to state that we have communicated with the customer when we saw the review online. This was what we had emailed the customer because we have been unable to reach the customer by phone. We were able to speak on the phone and have both said our side. We appreciate the opportunity to work this out. Dear Customer,Im reaching out to personally apologize for your recent experience with us. I understand from your review and prior message that youre frustrated and rightfully so. You've been a long-time customer, and I regret that this situation led you to question our integrity and commitment to honest service.I want to acknowledge first that I did attempt to call you on June 18 as requested. Due to the way your phone is configured to accept calls, I wasnt able to leave a voicemail, it simply produced a busy tone which I assumed may have been an issue with the line I was calling from so I tested it 3 separate times from 3 different phones. Since then, Ive kept an eye out as well as alerted the customer service team in hopes you'd try to reconnect, but understandably, the silence on our end came across as a disregard. I take full responsibility for not finding a better way to follow up, my apologies.Regarding the service recommendation, I did want to explain some of the technical reasoning behind our technician's assessment. The capacitor test performed during your service was a running load test, not a static test. This method measures the capacitors actual performance while the system is energized and under operational load providing insight into how it behaves in real-world conditions, not just sitting on its own as capacitors hold a charge and those readings as they are accurate are not the correct way to tell if in fact the capacitor is doing its job during the call for the compressor to run. While a standard multimeter can confirm capacitance within a tolerance range (like your reading of ***** F on a 40 F capacitor), it doesnt account for degradation that only presents when the system is drawing current. A capacitor may pass a bench test yet still underperform under load, causing voltage drops, startup issues, or in worst cases compressor failure which I myself have seen a multitude of times. Thats why we test under load conditions as the main source to gather information that is important to ensure we stay ahead of issues like this from occurring. The goal isnt to upsell its to detect early signs of strain that could lead to expensive damage down the line especially during the peak season of summer which no one wants at all, as something like that often forces decisions that no one likes to make. That being said, we should have done a much better job of clearly communicating the why behind our recommendation, as well as the warranty coverage and labor charges. If that wasn't transparent to you in the moment, then we failed to explain ourselves properly and for that, Im truly sorry.I'd really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you directly and clear the air. Id also like to hear more from your side, because your feedback helps us stay sharp and accountable. Please let me know a time that works best for you, or feel free to reach me directly at ************ Ill make myself available.Thank you for the opportunity you've given us over the years. I hope we can regain your trust and continue to serve you with the professionalism you expect.Apologies for the confusion,Review fromSherrie S

1 starWe were overcharged at a vulnerable time! *** will no longer put coolant in our system. We knew what the issue was and asked for 2 lbs of coolant to be added. The price was $780. I find this to be outrageous. We know that the unit we have is not going to last beyond the next year or so. I feel the vendor has overcharged because they can. When I called, all the Customer Service Rep could say that I need to know it is very expensive.Review fromMike S

1 starI have a whole house humidifier built into my central heating system. It was not getting water. The Tech didn't even look at the failed component. Instead, he wrote a quote for parts (wrong part number) that were not required and multipled the $120 cost by 10. I fixed the failure myself by clearing the calcified/clogged supply valve. The line and humidifier were fine and system is working again. I explained to the company and the representative told me it was leaking and discounted all my assertions. They were useless liars. Their ad about not trying to sell you things you don't need is BS.Review fromBlake H

1 starI called Amazing HVAC because my Condenser unit was tripping the breaker every hour or so. They sent a salesmen out who told me that he couldn’t Identify the issue but could send a Tech that would 100% identify it and the troubleshooting would cost $99.
I was hesitant paying a flat service fee but most HVAC companies seem to be doing that these days so I agreed to the $99 charge.
I was at work when the tech arrived so I spoke with him through my wife’s phone. He told me that the two pole 20 amp breaker has a loose connection and that it likely went bad.
I happen to be have been an electrician for the Air Force for over a decade and I was a member of the Local 24 in Baltimore as well. I am also an electrical project manager for the Maryland Air National Guard and have quoted hundreds of electrical projects.
I explained to the tech that the breaker had been replaced while I was deployed 6 months ago and he assured me there were burn marks where it had been arcing and that it would have to be replaced to continue troubleshooting. I hesitantly agreed but asked how much to replace the breaker.
He told me $472.00. TO REPLACE A BREAKER!! I told him I wouldn’t pay it. That I would pay the $15 for the breaker at home depot and replace it in 5 mins on my lunch break. He said they would still be charging the $99.
One of the owners or managers spoke with me shortly after and tried to explain how I don’t understand running a business. (I’m also a small business owner.)
Just because you mismanage your business’s finances doesn’t mean you should prey on your customers. Imagine if I didn’t know better and agreed to pay over $600 just to find out my AC is STILL NOT FIXED.
He eventually offered to send a tech back if the breaker was not the issue. Guess what… I changed the breaker … found there was no burn marks and the original breaker was indeed fine. But I don’t want your crooked company anywhere near my home. I’d rather hire someone with fair pricing and morales.Review fromJJ L

1 starThis company tries to rip off customer's pockets. It is also a scammer. Initially, my furnace is working except low in refrigerant. I called this company to come in diagnostic. The tech had no clue what was wrong. I mention to him that something is leaking according to another company advised. He then said, "oh yes, I think so too". He then gave me a quote for the coils worth of $2700. I asked him "is it ok just replace just the coils without replace inside and outside units". His name is Chris. He assures me that just replace the coils outside unit will taking care the leak issue. He told me that it is not necessary to replace both inside and outside. He said he is guaranteed me that after I replace the coils. it is going to take care the issue of leaking and I will never have to refill the refrigerant again for more than 10 years and ever. He also tried to sale me a ton of baloney stuff and services that I do not need. I paid the monthly comfort club $15 a month but every time I schedule a day or time to do maintenance. They always have a ton of excuses. Last week, when I called them to come performing the maintenance and check the inside unit. The tech came and his name was Andre. He told me there is a leak again. He told me the initial tech wasn't diagnose correctly the issue and he also advised me that when they installed the replacement coils, they did not fill enough refrigerant. Now, my furnace is extremely low in refrigerant. I asked the refund due to their mistakes. They even want me to pay for $12,000 again because they said I need a new furnace both inside and outside. Interesting! This all means, they scam me for $15000 for no reason to pay for their employees doing lousy jobs and lack of knowledge.
They are out of their mind. They think customers just pay money for them to keep their business survive. They also think that they can take advantage of customers.
Please stay far and extremely far away from this company.
