I had a colonoscopy done on 5/24/22 which I paid upfront for at the time of service. I received a refund for the payment a couple of months later after my insurance was processed. Now, two years later, the endoscopy center is demanding I pay them back the money that I received in a refund payment, as it was a mistake during their audit. This is absolutely ludicrous for a business to ask for their money back after two years on a mistake that they had made on their end. Even though I paid everything up front that was asked for as a responsible person, the endoscopy center is asking for me to repair the damages they had made against themselves. It is unacceptable and there needs to be action taken against them.

    Business Response

    Date: 06/25/2024

This complaint was received by the Harford Endoscopy Center on 6/25/2024. A recent accounting audit was performed and it was noted that this account received a duplicate refund in error. A letter, with proof of both endorsed checks, was sent to the patient on 5/07/2024 in an effort to attempt collection of the duplicate refund. The patient called the Harford Endoscopy Center ****************** on 6/19/2024 at 13:01 concerning this matter and the account was adjusted to a zero balance. Unfortunately, this was not explained to the patient, as the patient ended the call prior to resolution. No further attempts to collect from this patient have been made. With the actions taken, Harford Endoscopy Center considers this matter resolved.

I am rejecting this response because: I accept the resolution of my balance being $0, but I do not accept the response from this business because it is not completely factual.

In fact, I had two calls with the billing department that day, in which she explained to me that there was nothing that she could do her end of things and I specifically asked to be contacted by her supervisor. The woman in charge of billing then called me back and informed me that the most she could do would be give me a half-off discount, and she ended the call right when I had told her that I would not be paying and I wanted to speak to a supervisor about the situation. I never once received any calls or notice from that point, which I was told I would be hearing from her supervisor or the corporate office in the coming days. I was never told that my balance was changed to $0, which would've not only been appropriate to give notice of but it also would've been appreciated.

There is a huge lack of transparency coming from a company that continued to send me letters threatening calling me to collections. This should have been communicated with me (especially from the corporate office), instead of me finding out after I submit a complaint to the BBB.

    Sincerely,
