I received a wage garnishment summons from the local court. The balance due is $1807.07 for a card that was supposedly opened over 10 years ago. The summons was initiated by law office Protas, ************************************************ When I contacted the law office, I spoke with a paralegal, *** ******* who was unable to tell me anything other than the card was through **************. He gave me a random credit card number and told me to ****** it to find out which store the credit card was from. I googled it and ****** Furniture came up. I have never had an account with ****** Furniture. When I told this to the paralegal, he told me that I "shouldn't worry about it." He suggested I call the local court to find out the name of the store credit card. He said that I could call back and set up a payment plan. I contacted the local court and they were not able to give me any information on the credit card either. I called synchrony bank and the same, I was given no information. In the 10+ years that this card has supposedly been opened, I have not received one notice saying that any money was owed. There is nothing listed on my credit report stating that a synchrony account was sent to collections. This morning, I checked my bank account and a levy has been placed on my account for $1932. This is more than the amount that is owed and the hearing date for the garnishment summons is on May 9th, 2025. First off, I would like to know what store credit card is claiming I owe this money. Second, I was told by Mr. ******* that I could set up a payment plan if this was indeed my credit card. Third, how is a levy being placed on my bank account before the hearing date? When I called to voice these concerns, another paralegal, ******* Torino, was incredibly rude and condescending. I have a right to know where these charges are from and forgive me for not wanting to blindly pay almost $2000 to some shady law office.

I was court ordered to pay them $200/mo until paid in full. They will no longer accept my payments, and I have repeatedly emailed and tried to call them. It is insane that **** would use such a horribly reviewed "business" for this.I do not want to be punished for nonpayment, but I cant contact them, and it wont let me pay them.

Protas *********************************************** LLC has put my bank account on hold, after half a day phone calls I was able to talk to someone at the firm and he told me as I had a loan in 2019 which is 5+ years old, since February 2022 because of Brain Injury i am disabled and the only income I have is Social Security disability, by known that I have sent them my social security income proof still they are not willing to release the hold on my account because of that they put me and my family in the big problem by denying to do the necessary grocery by using my small available fund. Hence, I am asking BBB to help me by contacting this firm and get my account released. If I didn't succeed here and if they don't agree to settle this matter amicably, I am looking for egal assistant from any organization, pus heading to Federal and state agencies.

    1. January 2, 2024, I received a letter in the mail from Protas, Spivok and Collins LLC regarding a debt from 2014 - File number K640569. I am unfamiliar with this debt. In the letter, it states that I can request information via the mail or and email address regarding the debt and if that request is made, action can not be taken against me while that information is being sent to me. I looked the company up online and per numerous negative reviews, decided written communication was best for proof should I need it. I sent an email to the email provided in the letter and I received a bounce back email stating that my message was blocked. I checked the email address to make sure it was entered correctly, noted it was, sent another email and received the email blocked message. I went on to their website and found an email of their main contact and sent him an email requesting additional information on the account. I did not hear back. 2. March 7th, I received a letter in the mail from the District Court of Maryland that there will be a garnishment on my wages over this debt from 2014. As an email was sent for additional information, all legal proceedings should have been stopped while this request was being handled but they did not comply nor was I informed they were going to court to garnish my wages. I wanted information on the account so I knew what the debt was and how to best proceed. This was not given to me as the letter stated it would. I emailed the point of contact email from February and as of today, still have not received a responses 3. On March 7th, I filed a complaint with the consumer financial protection bureau. The complaint was sent to the company and although received, they still will not respond to the complaint.

My husband received one notice from Protas, ****************************** LLC informing him that he owed money to ****************************** LLC. We thought this was a scam because we bought a house a few months prior and believed that our loan officer did a thorough background check. Instead of trying to get in contact with my husband to collect the debt, the firm garnished his wages. My husband called the firm to see why this was happening and even asked if he could pay the debt instead of having his wages garnished. The firm told him he could pay the balance; however on the court documents he received from his employer, he was not allowed to pay the creditor or the creditors lawyer any fees. My husband tried to call back to see how many times the firm tried to notify him of this debt, but we received no answer. My complaint is due to the lack of communication and the quick action to garnish my husbands wage without giving him a proper chance to settle outside of the garnishment.

My husbands bank account was frozen. Upon further investigation, we found that this company put a levy on his account. They never tried to reach us, never reported to a credit agency, never bothered to get in touch with us, but presented our bank with a document that was not signed by a judge and claimed it was an old debt from 15 yrs ago, way outside the statute of limitations for the state of Virginia. How can this be legal? We searched for any outstanding debt before we bought our home and found nothing!!!

This entinty has taken my money from my bank account without me knowing anything about them or the reason. I never recieved any comunication and today as of this first complaint I do not know who is claiming anything, this is a serious problem. I am not able to talk to anyone because they sent me to a voice message on every attempt to discover what is going on. I will look at every law and have already found many leads of possable violations. I intend to do everything within my power to stop this evil action and I will sue them out of practise.
