Howard County Smiles Family Dentistry/Dr. ******.
After a cone beam CT x-ray of (which was not sent to my insurance company) I was told that I had insufficient jaw bone for an implant, and was recommended a bridge instead. The treatment plan estimate included the bone graft (for $1,100) and (after signing) I requested for that to be removed. When in the chair, mouth stretched open and unable to talk, they proceeded with the bone graft.
That aside, I have been in conversations with the front office/accounting staff for months about discrepancies between my insurance explanation of benefits and the amount billed. Every time we talk, the numbers and formats of statements change and it's impossible to figure out what they are billing me for. Howard County Smiles requires upfront payment for services prior to billing insurance. Howard County Smiles didn't send all services to insurance claims, and commingled the charges for three members of my family, making it very difficult to sort thru. Insurance says a provider can't bill separately for codes that are included in a complete procedure. Insurance says a provider can't bill separately for codes that are included in a complete procedure. I am being charged in excess of the treatment plan procedure estimate, and there is no attempt to resolve the discrepancies that exist between my insurance and Howard County Smiles. I'm caught in the middle and continue to be billed with interest.
Howard County Smiles has an ever-changing cast of characters (dentists, hygienists, and front office staff), and the accounting is abysmal. I will be moving my family to another practice.
