They did a terrible job removing the lead paint from our home. They didn't properly enclose the space, they quoted two days and it took two weeks, they left giant scratches in original glass panels and huge divots in all the original wood. Then they hardly cleaned up. We had to buy ***** and respirators just to finish the job.

    Hi Maureen,

Thank you for reaching out. We recently had a crew in August come to remove lead paint from three doors, two windows, and two large paneled areas of our home. I had three quotes from different contractors working from the EPA list and the MD state list. I have young kids so safety was my highest priority in having this done and having it done well. I am in historic preservation and while many would have ripped out the original doors and windows of our 1961 home to replace them, I love the original features and so wanted them cared for properly.

Nick, the project manager, was pretty helpful the entire time. He was responsive, was here everyday, and had no problem explaining things. But things started going wrong. They suggested that the project would take one day to put on the Peel Away, and then one day to remove and scrape. Peel Away on the container says it needs to be on for 12-48 hours to be effective, so there was really no way this was going to work in the first place. The crew was routinely down one or two people, and so this whole project took two weeks instead of two days.

During that time, I was told to move our items to the back of sunroom and they'd be clean enough. Well, it was ridiculously hot (and I felt terrible for the guys in tyvek suits) and they cut holes in the plastic sheeting hung up to keep the dust in so they could have more airflow. Then over the weekend, the entire sheeting in the sunroom fell down, I assume due to heat. They ended up not even getting to areas originally included in the quote because it was taking them so long to do the rest we said forget it. Nick did only charge us one extra day over quote since they were understaffed for the entire project.

The scraping took forever and they were not careful. They had a hard time getting all of the Peel Away off and the putty knives they were using gouged the original panes of glass in the doors. These are single paned original glass and I'm very worried they might shatter this winter. Nick did say to call him if that did happen. Nick also stayed late the last day wiping all of the areas I pointed out that his crew missed. I did send pictures to Nick who said he would forward to his manager (Kosala De Silva) on August 9, noting how much damage was done to the windows. I think the scratches are so deep that they will not be able to be repaired in many cases and we will end up having to replace them.

After, the test technician came and wiped select samples. He did do a few extra which I was grateful for but given the failed containment, there was a lot more that was covered with dust. They continued to test the three season sunroom as outside even though it is enclosed fully with no HVAC. I was told by the company I hired to do XRF lead testing that it should be considered inside. The main door that we are using to access the backyard passed by .1. I didn't feel safe with my toddler and kindergartener using that so we bought tyvek suits and respirator masks and cleaned it ourselves. We scraped remaining Peel Away and wet sanded it smooth.

At this point, 26 panes of glass with hardly any markings or scratches are now deeply scratched all around the molding. I can't even find someone to help me repair them and it's taken us hours upon hours to finish wiping down the areas of construction, scrape the peel away, use the Citrilize to neutralize the wood as is in the Peel Away directions and get it prepped for repainting.

Simply said, your company should not have put in an offer for this job. I trusted them as professionals to be able to handle the job properly and I felt highly unsafe after they left. It's only now after weeks of additional cleaning, neutralizing, and repairing on our part that we're ready to paint and complete the job.

I am very frustrated that we haven't been able to use areas of our house, especially with young kids. I understand that your team mostly does government contracting but then they should not have offered to take on this project.

I do appreciate you reaching out. My email from the project is *************@gmail.com

    Thanks,
