    I am filing a complaint for fraudulent representation in billing practices and conflict of interest within the western Maryland health system operated by ****. My primary care provider referred me to be seen at a counselor for some mental health issues that were occurring over the summer of 2024. They referred me to their internal mental health clinic, where I reported to complete their intake paperwork in August of 2024. During the intake I questioned the billing prices but was told that since I have insurance the bill would not amount to the figures I was signing off on. Two months later I discover that my insurance does not cover their service and I am billed for the full amount that I had challenged during my intake. Fortunately I only attended two 45 minute sessions of counseling which amounted to $889.99 and stopped going before my bill spiraled out of control. I called the billing office on 11/15/24 to see if I could negotiate a more reasonable rate for the service and was told that they do not set the rate. I told them that I would pay a portion of the amount as I did receive those services, but they stated that they could not adjust the rate. They only recourse being to apply for financial aid. My issue is that:1. I was referred internally within the western Maryland health system rather than given proper choice. To which I also learned was a more significant service than what I needed. I was billed for psychotherapy rather than what I probably needed was simply counseling. 2. During intake when I challenged the rate of service, I was told that my insurance would cover a portion of that and that nobody really pays that amount.
