In September 2022, I subscribed to Southern Maryland News (Acct #*******, online access and a weekly paper sent to my PO Box) using my **** card, and my subscription confirmation indicated that my subscription would start on 10/7/2022 and end on 4/7/2023. When reviewing my credit card charges recently, a charge for $10.06 was made by APG Media on 1/27/23, and again for $10.06 on 2/28/23. I called APG Media on 3/7/23 and was told that my subscription end date was changed because of a ‘fuel charge’, and also because there were ‘premium’ editions that were issued. When I started the subscription, the invoice and website made no mention of these additional charges that would shorten my subscription end date. I requested a refund for the amounts charged to my credit card on 1/27/23 and 2/28/23 and was told that the issue would have to be escalated to a manager. I received an email from APG Media of Chesapeake on 3/8/23 stating that due to the “premium and fuel charges . . . we can not issue a refund for the January and February charges.” I called my **** card issuer to contest the unauthorized charges by APG Media. I was told that my **** card issuer would give me a credit for those charges. I replied to the APG Media email asking them to cancel my subscription and to not make any additional unauthorized charges to my credit card. APG Media uses deceitful and underhanded practices to claim that there are ‘premium editions’ and ‘fuel charges’ that shorten subscriptions. They did not notify me that my subscription date had been shortened by two months, they did not notify me that I would be billed additional amounts prior to the end date of my subscription, and then APG Media made two unauthorized charges to my credit card when my subscription should have still been active. APG Media Chesapeake is a dishonest company and should be investigated for deceitful practices to overcharge their customers and make unauthorized credit card charges.

    Business Response

    Date: 03/13/2023

Today I have requested a refund of $18.98 be issued to Mr. ****** account.  Under "desired outcome / settlement", Mr. **** noted he would like no further contact by the business, so I will not reach out to him directly.  If I can be of any additional help, Mr. **** is welcome to contact me at ###-###-####.
