Date of transaction: April 3rd 2025 and April 4th 2025 Amount paid: $1,947.75 Business: Junk relocation followed by removal Nature of dispute: I had hired College Hunks Hauling Junk to move junk from my attic to rooms in the upper floor of my home. This process cost $658.75. After seeing the amount of junk to sort through, I followed up same day to have the junk removed. This process cost $850 making the total cost on April 3rd $1,508.75. The job could not be completed on April 3rd and a follow up was scheduled for April 4th and this cost was $439 making the total job cost $1,947.75. After the initial day of junk removal, I noticed several scratches and a gauge in my laminate flooring which was installed in October 2024. I called the main line for College Hunks Hauling Junk and explained that there was damage to the flooring, so on April 4th, a manager arrived to photograph the damage and advised their leader would be in contact. I have yet to hear back and I have followed up with the manager and there has been no correspondence. The business did not advise me of the damage, and when I asked the manager they did not claim responsibility.Resolution Expected: College Hunks Hauling Junk to cover cost of damage being replaced by **** Flooring and refund of at least the April 4th job of $439Business Response

As the client stated, College HUNKS completed a very large clean-out on April 3rd and April 4th. Client reached out after Day 1 with some concerns about scratches on the floor in the area where the work was performed. On Day 2, we sent a supervisor to the location to inspect the damage claim. Although there were scratches identified, they were found in a high traffic area, and it was impossible to determine if they were casused by the HUNKS. Additionally, there was scratches on the floor found throughout the home in areas that the HUNKS did not work in.
In my opinion, the floors are very soft and don't support anything but "foot" traffic. There was no neglect or poor workmanship by the College HUNKS team. As a good partner, I am willing to provide an accommodation of $100 to help offset any repairs to the floors. Thanks!

I am rejecting this response because: on top of scratches, there is a gash which could not have been caused by foot traffic. I am in the process of selling the house and had a realtor walk through before this job was conducted and there were no scratches or gashes identified. I have a protection plan with the flooring company which covers accidental damage and if I caused it, it would be covered. Since a third party caused the damage (as there were multiple bangs and dragging of items), they will not cover the cost of the damage.I am appalled at the handling of this situation as I have used College Hunks several times, and planned on continuing to use them until this, and the fact that they didnt own up to an accident and have tried to pass it on to me is unacceptable.
I have recently reached out to the flooring company and the estimate to fix the floor is $626.18 on top of $150 it cost to have them do the estimate totaling $776.18
the expectation is for College Hunks to own up to their accident and cover the cost. If not, I am happy to escalate this issue further.
Sincerely,
**** ******Business Response

College HUNKS services thousands of clients every year, and we have never walked away from any responsibility or obligations that we might have with a job. In this particular situation, we were tasked with moving boxes out of your attic and into our truck. We never removed any furniture or heavy items that would cause a ***** in the flooring. According to the supervisor on-site, the drop-down stairs used to gain access to the attic is likely repsonsible for any gouges. Otherwise, the HUNKS simpliy moved boxes from the attic and into the truck. Negligent behavior or poor operational execution did not cause the scratches. I understand your frustrations, but we simply can't meet your demands. The best and final offer is $150. This doesn't make the issue go away, but it acknowledges our willingness to try and resolve the matter.

Complaint: 23249549
I am rejecting this response because: business claims they moved items from the attic to the truck and "never removed any furniture or heavy items that would cause a ***** in the flooring. According to the supervisor on-site, the drop-down stairs used to gain access to the attic is likely repsonsible for any gouges. Otherwise, the HUNKS simpliy moved boxes from the attic and into the truck". This is inaccurate as the movers first moved the contents of the attic to the upper level of my residence (see attachments). Additionally, there were more than just boxes and there were heavy items like full plastic bins, some chairs, bed frame, and a floor fan.
The claim that the drop down stairs used to gain access to the attic is like repsonsible for any gouges is also inaccurate as I have taken photos of the stairs folded down in the way to gain access and it is not near the ***** in the floor (see attachment).
I understand that accidents happen, and my complete dissatisfaction was the lack of honesty the movers had when they dropped contents of the attic on to the floor, thus damaging them. Had they approached me and explained the situation, I would not be as upset or utilizing the Better Business Bureau, but I truly believe they, and the supervisor, tried to get one over on me.
Due to the evidence I have provided, I am denying the "final offer" and instead countering with an agreement of half of the cost of the damage, as the company has claimed they didn't do it, and I am claiming they have (with evidence), but we are going around in circles. As such, to resolve this, a refund of $385 should be issued, as that is half of the proposed cost of $770 to repair the damages and the initial $150 estimate.
Sincerely,

Hello ****,
Thank you for reaching out. In this situation, if I accept and pay the $250 cost, but the business declines, would the cost be refunded to me? Additionally, if the case is found in my favor, could that cost be passed on to the business?
Thank you for clarifying these points.

The day the movers arrived (7-31-24) they were 30 min late. I explained to the supervisor and each worker that the stuff in the garage will transfer over to the new garage, and the stuff in the apartment will transfer to inside of the new apartment. I asked where they would like to start and they said they would start in the garage. After some time they began to take stuff from inside the apartment, so I assumed they were done with the garage. After they were done, they said they were going to stop to get food or something to drink and meet me at the new apartment. They pulled out a bed frame that was originally in the garage. I asked them why that was in the back of the truck when it should have been in the front, and was told that while they were removing things from the garage, some of the other guys started taking things from the apartment, and everything got mixed together. For the rest of the day I sat in my apartment as I watched them bring up load after load of my belongings, only to then tell them that none of it went in the apartment. After they finished the supervisor told me my total was $2080. I told him that couldn't be right as the estimate was only $1450. He said that I probably wasn't taking into consideration the additional hours they had worked. As I was going through my apartment, I noticed several items were not taken to the garage, and items left in the garage were not taken into the apartment. So now I have to move these things myself. Upon unpacking the boxes in the apartment, I noticed that 2 framed and autographed posters were missing.
I do not feel I should have to pay the additional $630 over my estimate, as the extra hours spent making and correcting mistakes was not my fault. I also feel I should not have to pay the additional amount as I still have to move boxes and tubs myself, a service that I already paid for. I would also like to know where my autographed posters are. The manager has not returned my phone calls.Business Response

In every estimate we provide to the client, they are reminded that the estimate is a snapshot of the cost for the job based on the information made available to use in that moment. In many cases, unforseen circumstances may increase the estimated time, so the client needs to be prepared for this type of scenario.
As it relates to Mr. ******, the estimate we submitted to him reflects delivery to a single family home with driveway parking (**** ****** ******). On the day of the move, however, Mr. ****** provided a different address. The new address at **** **** **** is an apartment building. The unit for the client is on the 5th floor of the building. In addition, there was a garage in a different locaton in the apartment complex where many items were assigned. The walks to deliver the items into the apartment exceeded 300 ft. None of this information was provided to us in the original estimate.
When I input the correct address in our estimator tool, the new estimated cost is $2491.25. No changes were made to inventory or the origin address. I have included a copy of the estimate for your review.
During our phone discussion, I was never made aware of anything missing. If you will provide a description of the poster you referenced, I will check our warehouse to see if it might have been found when the truck was prepped for the next day's job.

I found the missing posters at the very back of the garage behind 2 antique televisions. I also understand that the price would be different due to the change in address of the move, though $630 is still an egregious difference in price. I am still upset over how the move was handled, as I still had to move a minimum of 6 heavy boxes and tubs from my apartment to the garage, and sort through every box and tub in my garage to find which ones went in my apartment. This makes the additional $630 even more unjustifiable. If they had separated the items like I instructed, these issues would not have happened. The manager I spoke with said he would call me back after I complained about the service. He never did. I called multiple times, leaving a message every time, yet still no response. That's when I contacted the BBB. Even in his response to my BBB complaint, he never even acknowledged the time and effort it took me to complete the job I paid them to do. He did offer to send them back, but after the experience I had I did not want them back in my apartment. They provided inadequate service and then ghosted me when I tried to complain. This is why the BBB exists. Thank you for all of your help with this matter.Initial Complaint

I received moving services from College Hunks Hauling and Junk on June 8, 2024. I paid $150 deposit for these services and was quoted a remaining balance of $495, which would be due upon completion of services. I ended up paying a remaining balance of $612.
The men who completed my moving services were unprepared and unprofessional. They were supposed to arrive to my starting location between 9am-10am, which they did. However, when they showed up, they did not have the supplies they needed to move my glass/fragile items. One of the movers had to contact someone on the phone to have them bring the proper supplies, which were cardboard boxes to transport glass. I had to pay an additional $5 per cardboard box, which added an additional $45 to my bill. Due to the additional costs, I did not have them move all items they were supposed to, because I could not afford to pay for all the additional boxes. This additional charge was not communicated to me when I received my quote. Also, because they had to wait for someone to bring the supplies, it slowed down the entire moving process. They also did not have shoe covers to put on their shoes. The location I moved to is a brand-new home, so for them to not have shoe covers is unacceptable. Luckily, I had ******* at my home during the same time and the ******* guy had to provide them with shoe covers.
They also charged me a $25 "supply fee", and I don't know why.
The level of unprofessionalism was ridiculous. For example, one of the movers used my bathroom without my permission and they took a smoke break.
Based on the information provided over the phone to schedule my move, the job should have taken 3.5 hours, with a total of $645. They charged me for 3.75 in addition to all the fees, so I ended up paying a total of $762.
I left a review as prompted after receiving my service, but no one has reached out. I would like to speak with someone and get a refund.
Thank you for your review,

I am sorry to hear your experience with College HUNKS Hauling Junk and Moving was less than satisfactory. We strive to provide our clients with a stress-free move experience by providing fair and reasonable prices along with professional execution of our service. I have attached a copy of the estimate that we provided by College HUNKS for your move. Based on the informaton you provided, we estimated the time at 3.25 hours. It is clearly stated in the estimate that this time may increase depending upon certain move factors. The estimate also states that any boxes and supplies needed for the job would be at an additional cost to you. These supplies are necessary to prevent damage from occuring.
Unfortunately, we don't typically use shoe covers while moving becaue of the inherent danger associated with slips and trips. Certainly, the HUNKS should have asked permission to use your restroom, and any smoke breaks should have been communicated.
Although we did not violate the agreed upon estimate, I'm willing to offer a $50 refund as an accommodation in order to put this behind us. Thanks!

We requested a donation to go directly to Habitat for Humanity in ********, **. The person who scheduled the pick up told us they can pick up our items and go to the Habitat for Humanity. We confirmed with the drivers they would take it to the requested location. They also came into our house to pick up one item and track mud throughout the house. Our items were not donated to Habitat for Humanity and we think the item were trashed because they can not confirm the items were donated. When I requested a Property Damage Claim to clean our carpets they office never called us back. After 5 calls to the customer service number they finally got me in touch with the local owner, ***** *****. Mr. ***** told me it was my fault the workers tracked mud in my house and I should have known the workers had muddy shoes because they are a moving company. He denied my property damage claim and the corporate offices will only refer me to the local office and will provide no support.Business Response

We completed a small junk removal for the customer and charged him $259 for 1/6 of a truck. The customer asked to have the items donated to Habitat for Humanity, and we assured him that we would make every effort to make that happen.
While the HUNKS were removing the items from the customer's home, there was a torrential down pour. As a matter of fact, it rained the entire day.
When the job was completed, the customer paid the ********************** and asked for a donation receipt to be sent. Unfortunately, we were not able to donate the items to Habitat because it was too far from the next job. Instead, we donated the items to Goodwill.
I sent the client the Goodwill receipt we received, but the client got upset and told me we should refund his money because we didn't drop the items at Habitat. I reminded the client that he paid for junk / donation removal only. I also reminded him that we never make any guarantees that the items would be donated at a specific location. We try our best, but operating constraints sometimes foul our plan.
He then went on tell me that the HUNKS tracked mud while they were removing the items from his home (during the rain storm). I reminded the client that weather was out of our control, and it would have been wise to reschedule the job if he was concerned about stains on the carpet.
In order to put this situation behind us, I offered the customer a $50 accommodation (which is almost 20% of the $259 job). He rejected my offer.Customer Answer

The service provided to the client was junk / donation removal service. Pricing is detemined by the amount of space these items take up in the truck. We agreed with the client to a price of $259 and loaded the items onto the truck. Although I understand the customer's frustration, we fulfilled our obligation which was removing the items from his home. We also were able to donate the items albeit at a different donation center than the one requested.
We make no guarantees that the items we pick up will be donated; nor, do we guarantee delivery to a specific charity. The donation sites ultimately determine whether they will accept or reject the items. Part of the mission of the College HUNKS brand is to try and donate 70% of the items we collect from our junk / donation removal service to needy organizations. This is our ultimate goal, and we strive towards it daily; however, at the end of the day, logistics and operational constraints dictate the donation process.

12/04 Confirm booking $150 deposit for job on 12/12 at 09.
Job = dis/reassemble Bed, frame, spring, & transport few items.
12/09 I was contacted by Mr. S**** that I was overbooked, moved to 1-3pm
12/12- I'm in Aberdeen at site @ 11.
I call Mr. S**** at 1310 he says they are at another job, will arrive at 2pm.
I receive call at 1607 (after my time slot) from Ryan, they are 8 mins away.
The 3 men, run into an issue with the bed frame, the bolts are stripped, I gave them the go ahead to continue moving other items to truck. They sincerely expressed concerned and apologized for not having the proper tools for this issue.
We move to site 2 in Cockeysville, they unload quickly and set up what was necessary.
Ryan told me to call Mr. S**** about the bed situation and charged $320, I added the additional 20% tip for the men due to no damages to property despite the odd challenges they faced with the site.
At 18:48 Mr. S**** told me he can deal with the bed that night or the next day. I express I have conflict in school schedule, I am available that night so this can be over with.
I drove ( 45-54min) and called Mr. S**** 20mins before reaching site 1.
Although the bed was being successfully taken down by the other associate, it was clear Mr. S**** was annoyed and held an attitude towards his partner. I felt uncomfortable as I found this unprofessional
Back and forth, partner compromise by saying Mr.S**** can go home while he makes the delivery by himself.
They load frame on truck with no intentions of delivering that night after I tell them I have a conflicting schedule, they tell me to figure it out the next day.
12/13- 12/16 I have made 4 attempts, 2 calls, survey, and reached out to corporate. I was told by dispatch that Mr. S**** is the owner, and no emails will be made available to me. No attempts to be resolved from them.
What I experienced did not align with company values, my home and self is respected as a customer.Business Response

I had the College Hunks Movers come to my house on August 14, 2022 to pick up furniture for donation. The movers themselves did a great job. I asked for a receipt for these donations for tax deduction purposes and was promised it would be emailed to me shortly. When the receipt did not materialize, I began calling to request it. Over the past two weeks, I have made four calls to College Hunks main number, listed on the website, and been reassured each time that the receipt would be sent immediately.
It never was.
I begin to feel defraudedif I wanted it to go into a landfill, I would have hired a cheaper service.
P.S. I am aware that not all items may be accepted by a charity and that this company has no control over that, but there was brand new quality furniture amongst the haul, and if it was rejected I would like to know who rejected it and when so that I may be reassured this company didn't just throw it into a landfill without the attempt to donate it that they promised.Business Response

On July 11 I had College hunks move me from my apartment into a new apartment about an hour away. I have used this company multiple times and have never experienced any issues. The first issue that I observed was that they wrapped none of my items in safety wrap, and did not even protect the glass top of a table and a mirror. When we went to the new apartment, they tore my leather sofa so badly that the nails came out of the back along with several other scraps on my L sectional sofa. Then, on my dresser there are scratches so deep that it has damaged the actual wood and paint. My wooden TV stand also had multiple marks on it that damaged it enough to scrap paining and actual wood chips off.I heard one worker state "oh yeah we really messed up that one" after placing the piece in my apartment. Another item that was severely damaged was my full sized mattress, that appears to have been dragged on some sort of rough surface so hard that there are several holes in the bottom big enough it fit my entire hand into along with dark black scrape marks. After the company left, we saw that there was a huge piece of our dressor attachable mirror that was chipped, but conveniently placed in a part of the room that we did not see it until after the team had
Left. I have tried contacting the manager, Stacy *****, multiple times but to only get his voicemail. The actual call center is telling me there is nothing they can do but to keep calling Mr. Moses. I am extremely disappointed with service and am unsure why my items were not taken care of since I had to place a hold fee that covers materials that wrap my items of $150. If I do not hear from the team soon, I will be looking at taking legal action because my furniture is damaged beyond belief and I am so disappointed. The moving cost $882.50 and I am seeking reimbursement for my damaged items.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because the company caused damages to several furniture pieces that I had to pay out of pocket to repair. I would like a full refund as I was never contacted by the manager after filing a claim immediately after the move, the company promised to wrap my items damage free which did not occur, and there were several comments by the movers acknowledging the damage that has been done. I would like a refund for the entire move ($882.50) or at least more of a compensation than $100 as it does not cover the damage done to my furniture.I have used the company previously and when they damaged my item, they quickly made it right and I was compensated per the contract states. I just want to replace my furniture that was damaged. I hope we can come to a compromise that is fair and make this right.
thank you so much for understanding,
