Complete "free water test" scam - got a high reading on my water sample; they wanted to send a technician to my house for more "detailed" screening, however they wanted to know every thing about who lived at my house, if I was married, who exactly lived at my house and how many adults - they would not set an appointment unless all adults were available at the same time for the "technician" to do the additional testing - all this do a simple water test; complete scam

    Chesapeake Water Treatment

    Date: 10/19/2022

My name is Charles ************* of Chesapeake Water Treatment.
spoke with Ms L*** regarding the callthe following is what occurred on the call, as she remembers it:

BackgroundMr ****** mailed a water sample vial and an information card to our company. We tried to reach him at the phone number indicated on the information card. After several phone unsuccessful attempts we mailed a post card to him, indicating that we have been trying to reach you, and to please call in to the office. Mr. ****** called our office on Monday 17 October 2022 at 11:03am.

The CallMr.****** spoke to Ms L***. She gave the water test results to him right away. The two items that we tested for are: TDS, which is the Total dissolved Solid content, and the Hardness level of the water. Ms L*** also explained due to the limited volume of water (5ml) that we were not able to test for other items. She offered to have a technician come to Mr. ***** home to perform additional testing. She indicated that there would be no cost for this testing. (note: there was no cost for the initial testing either).Mr ***** indicated that he was interested in having this done.

Ms L*** asked how many adults resided in the home, at which Mr.***** indicted that there are 5. Ms l*** ask if there was a time that everyone would be home together to view the test. Mr.***** indicated "NO", and then asked "why does everyone need to be home?" Ms L*** responded that we like to get everyone's questions answered and address any concerns they may have. Mr. ***** indicated that only he would have questions or concerns about the water.

Ms L*** asked if one of the other 4 adults was a spouse. Mr ***** responded "yes...maybe...but why does that matter?
Ms. L*** then said " We would like both of you (meaning both spouses) to be present" . Mr. ****** said " That is not necessary".
Ms L*** then indicated that the technician cant come to the house if both of you are not present. She then had begun to explain why...but Mr. ****** spoke up and said " Well, then tell him not to come out...that's fine..no problem.....Ill get someone else.

    Ms L*** then responded "OK..that's fine...thank you"END OF CALL

    -
It is our company policy to have both spouses present for in home water testing or all adults and/ or significant others if not married. Ms L*** attempted to explain why we have this policy to Mr. ****** but was cut off in mid sentence.
    -
Ms L*** was very polite, and straight to the point. She was not gathering any information on the occupants other than how many there were. There was no scamno money was requested, transacted or implied. No private information was asked for. Mr ****** never asked to speak with a manager he also never called back to the office to complain.

After Mr ****** did not want to comply with the "Both Spouse present" the call was ended.

I am sorry Mr ****** felt that the call was a scam. I respectfully disagree.
    -
    However:
I would be more than happy to arr***e the no charge, water testing, if Mr ****** so desired.
Mr ****** should contact me to arr***e the test.XXX-XXX-XXXX

    Thank you.
