My engagement party was held in the Barrell Room at the Tenth Ward on 06/22/2024. When we arrived to the venue, it was nearly 85-90 degrees INSIDE the venue space. We asked staff to turn the A/C on and fix this issue but we were told numerous times that they were working on it. It was so hot, my cake melted and my cold food quickly got HOT. The manager told us that this space is often hot like this because it is an old building which is understandable but this is something that the staff should have told us prior to the event, 85-90 degree is beyond unacceptable ( we asked for fans to be set up, they had none). BUT, this was NOT even the biggest issue we had!
It was SO hot in the venue that the high temperatures caused my ********* brother to have a VERY severe seizure in the middle of my party. My family and I have dealt with these before so we know EXACTLY how to handle it, great, no big deal. UNTIL, the manager that was overseeing our event quickly became angry and began to SCREAM, CUSS, SLAM THINGS, AND GRAB THINGS from my guests DURING AND AFTER my brothers medial emergency, that we told him we had handled.
Now, I understand that medical emergencies can be high stress and scary sometimes so this behavior could be understandable (I guess?) in a high stress situation, but the manager NEVER apologized for his actions. One of my guests was cleaning up a spill and the manager cussed at my guest and snatched the mop from his hands. He then purposely knocked a bunch of stuff over and eventually stormed outside with his cigarettes. I was embarrassed by the staff that I PAID to help host this event as the manager became so violent and agitated towards myself, my family and my guests. I have worked in the service industry for 10+ years, serving, bartending and managing large events and weddings so I understand things happen. BUT, this was by far the WORST experience I have had at a venue and with event staff. They treat guests with disabilities AWFUL.
