I was referred to this company by my accountant, when they stopped doing payroll at their firm a couple of years ago. I am my sole employee, so monthly payroll is very simple - same amount, same withholding, etc.. At first, I was told that fees should be very comparable to that of my accounting firm, however last year I was charged over double for my W-2 than what I used to pay. Then, earlier this year they implemented an upgraded payroll program that they automatically opted everyone into, which had absolutely no benefits to me as a 1-employee business, and they wanted to charge an extra $100/mo. Thankfully I was able to opt out before their "deadline", and got my $100 back, however it took 2 billing cycles. Most recently they've charged me a $250 fee for enrolling me in Maryland Saves (MDS). While this is a state mandated program for employers who meet a certain criteria, it is 100% free to enroll, but Payroll Services never gave me that option and basically said that in order to guarantee full compliance for their customers, they took it upon themselves to enroll everyone and made up a $250 "compliance work" fee. There was very little communication about MDS from Payroll Services, and what was communicated was obscure and unclear. The initial contract I signed has no mention of fees either, other than that they are "subject to change". The contract also doesn't mention enrollment in external programs as part of their services. I've requested a refund of my $250 as I should've been given the ability to register myself. I also requested they cancel my services and they tried to claim that I signed a contract with them through 04/2023, however the contract they sent 04/2021 I never received, nor signed (only received a copy of it last week after communicating with a supervisor for several days). Last Wednesday I made it known that if I wasn't refunded $250 and received confirmation of cancellation, I would be filing a BBB complaint. I have not received a reply.
