I am writing to complain about the poor service I receive from American Chimney on 10-30-23. Reschedule 4 times before showing up. I was told that this company would be doing this work. The program that was working with me is called Rebuilding Together. American Chimney sent me a text stating it would be $4500.00 to reline my chimney. phone. Also several harassing text demanding payment. Finally the sent the invoice to Rebuilding. They relined the chimney. Stated to me that they was a brick lose and that they put it back in. They did not use anything to seal the brick in. The brick has came out. The roof is causing a leak in my bathroom over the tub. I had to hire a contractor to look at my roof. I now have to pay out of pocket for they laziness. I wonder was this done on purpose. I look forward to hearing from you. I can be contacted through my e-mail **********************

    Business Response

    Date: 06/19/2024

I contacted ***** at the agency, Rebuilding Together, DC This is the organization who arranged for us to work at the ***************. Ms ***** contacted them and they contacted us. We did make an appointment to visit her home and provide her an estimate. Our records show we made 3 additional appointments. 2 of those appointments were rescheduled because our employee was ill. On the 3rd appointment date we arrived and provided an estimate and on the 4th appointment date we repaired the chimney. Generally, this sort of repair requires two appointments. One for estimate and one for the actual work.

Its not uncommon to have to reschedule occasion because of weather and less frequently we also may reschedule when either a vehicle breaks down or an employee is ill or something else like that happens.

When the original call came in, there was no mention of a water leak inside the house. In fact, I just learned the water leak yesterday when I read her complaint. it has been many, many months since we did the work and the things we did to the chimney would normally make it much less likely to leak, though the work we did would not necessarily prevent it from leaking, particularly if the leak is either a defective roof & chimney flashing that has or some other roof related issue. What can also seep through brick, but since the house is many decades old, and there was no report of this, we would not anticipate a leak occurring in this manner.

It sounds like perhaps a roofer or somebody told her that the leak was coming from the chimney. I dont know if this is true. It could also have been coming from the roof. She also mentioned that we did not put a sealer on the chimney. we dont put waterproofing on chimneys. People tend to use that word incorrectly from time to time and we dont put what I would refer to as a sealer on it either. What we do put on chimney time is called a water repellent. These can be effective if theyre applied properly, but we would not ordinarily apply it if somebody had not mentioned that their chimney was leaking or showed us a stain on the interior wall or something like that and that did not occur in this case

I would like to know more about whether or not she had a roofer out and what the roofer told her and I would like the opportunity to view the chimney and the wet spot inside the house if it is not been repaired yet. I do have a picture of the chimney that was taken before we did the work, but I dont have one afterwards, though the chimney can be viewed now and if nothing has been done since we were there, it probably wouldnt have changed much in its appearance.

I noticed you gave us 10 days to respond. Does this count as a response? ***** at  Rebuilding DC, who I contacted, called left Ms ***** two messages for her earlier today. He said he would get back with me when he got in touch with her but that he would only be available for a couple of hours before the weekend so Im concerned about the *********************************************** during that time, etc., etc.please call me at ************. My name is ******************* Im the owner of America professional chimney service and again my phone number is ************. Tomorrow is Wednesday and I have two plane flights to catch but relatively short flights so feel free to call me and do leave me a message and I will get back to you promptly.
