I am giving the company 2 stars because my utility room looks much better now that it has been drywalled and painted, and the lighting is improved. However, I have many reasons to be dissatisfied. The total cost of the project was $10,415.20 (including $898 for supplies that I paid independently) while the original estimate was $5,400. Given that the room was unfinished, with cinder block walls exposed and all kinds of cables visible on the unfinished ceiling, a trained professional should have noticed that the walls were not straight and that the electrical issues would take longer to fix. (To the company’s credit, as a bonus, I was not charged for the painting job.) The worker who put the drywall behind the furnace did not bother to cut out two openings for the existing vents. He just covered them, something I did not notice right away. The company agreed to send someone to cut the drywall behind the furnace to allow for ventilation before expecting a final payment. I am glad that the company sent Julio (who did some work at my house) because he is meticulous and easy to talk to, unlike his partner. Julio fixed another problem: since he was there, I asked him to shut off the water valve in the ceiling for the outside faucet. It turns out that the drywall opening on the ceiling for the plate used to cover the valve was cut too small: the valve could not be moved all the way in the off position. He had to make a bigger cut in the drywall, something I would have been unable to do if I had waited until a frost warning late in the day to shut off the valve. And a mystery: an almost empty bucket of primer cover was left behind (standard procedure) but the bucket of floor paint was gone. Also gone was a bucket of concrete patch. Given the 8 bags of trash left behind for a week along with the almost empty bucket of paint, it seems unlikely that empty (?) containers were removed as a service to me. Asking for permission to remove them would have been appreciated.
