We worked on *** ***** 2008 Inifity EX35, please see the timeline of events below:

On 10/23/24 we replaced an alternator, serpentine belt, added oil since the engine was low on oil, and changed the oil pressure switch for ***Alik. The customer brought his own alternator that he purchased for us to install. The total invoice for the work paid was $322.88.

On 10/28/24 the customer complained about a noise that started coming from the engine bay. The customer advised he can drop off the car on 10/28 or 10/29. We replied for him to let us know which day he wants to drop it off so we can check the noise for him.

On 10/29/24 the customer replied thank you but never dropped off the car or told us which day he would bring it.

On 11/22/24 the customer contacted us that he would like to drop off the car for us to look at the noise and complete an oil change. Since it was a Friday and we are closed on the weekend, we told the customer the car will be worked on Monday but he could drop it off during the weekend, which he did.

On 11/26/24 We inspected the noise from the engine bay and it was coming from the Drive belt tensioner and pulley. We quoted the customer for the job a total of $376.07. However, the customer declined to do the work. ***Alik only authorized the oil change.

On 12/17/24 The customer contacted us because his car because his power steering failed and he thinks we are responsible. We asked the customer to bring us the car for us to see it and be able to identify exactly what happened, he told us no. We told him the only way for us to help him is for him to bring the car.

Since we never saw the car, we can only believe the parts we told him that needed to be replaced eventually failed, he denied the job because he didnt think we were telling him the truth, we were telling him exactly what was wrong and it was the truth. He told us in the meantime he took it to another shop, but we dont know what happened during that visit to another shop.

In conclusion we are 100% truthful in all of our diagnostics and would never tell a customer they need a part if they actually dont. The customer failed to replace the parts with us or at another shop, which eventually led to him having more issues with his car. We believe if *** **** replaced the parts we quoted him for, we wouldnt be in this situation, also *** **** took over a month to bring his car back for us to look at the noise he described. ******* should be responsible for the invoice at the other shop he took his car to and should be responsible to repair his vehicle at a timely manner to prevent damages.

I am rejecting this response because:
The explanation given by the shop makes no sense. The shop is claiming that I needed to replace the pulley and the tensioner. If that was the case the new shop that diagnosed improper installation of the belt would also recommend replacing the pulley and the tensioner. You can see just there they are NOT 100% honest in their diagnostics because their other shop DID NOT recommend replacing those parts and fixed problem. The problem was negligent installation of a belt and not what the shop is claiming for the reasons listed above. The shop can not accept that their personnel installed a part improperly which was confirmed by another repair shop and already repaired. Emphasis added, THE PULLEY and TENSIONER were NOT replaced as the shop is claiming was the problem. The improperly installed belt was replaced along with the power steering pump that it destroyed in the process.

A complaint has been filed with the office of the Attorney General concurrently

    Sincerely,

Mr. ***** on 11/26/24 we inspected the noise and inspected our work, the belt was installed correctly. After informing you of our concerns, you told us you would take the car to another shop, if you took the car to another shop to inspect what was wrong, you never notified us. If we installed a belt incorrectly, you would of not been able to drive over 2000 miles as you did from the initial day we completed the work. We stand behind our work and have done so with your family for many years.

I am rejecting this response because:
There is no logic to the response of the business owner. The shop incorrectly reported installed the belt, which was confirmed by a 3rd party. The belt failed and destroyed other components. Speculating on how many miles can be driven on an improperly installed belt adds no factual value to the case at hand and prior service on other vehicles does not either. The fact that the component that the shop failed is indisputable and that can only be due to improper installation. If it wad properly installed as claimed, it would not have failed. Those are facts of the case. The business owner of is using mere speculation and deflection. New parts just dont fail if properly installed
    Sincerely,
