Hello I would like to Amend complaint #********
Customer called for a tow and repairs to his car he said he just purchased and it broke down on him.
When we received it the engine was leaking a massive amount of oil and had a lot of melted wires and signs of overheating etc.
We recommended a new OEM Engine and he said he couldnt afford it so we suggested a used one with 6 month 6k miles warranty. (Not 3 years like he claims)
The Company we got it from was Pick A Part in ******** (not Crazy Rays like he claims).
We installed the used engine and it ran great no issues.
The car was at our shop about 7-8 weeks because he couldnt come up with the balance of the money, he could only get $4k from Koalafi (the 3rd part loan company we referred him to)
When he finally picked up the vehicle it ran 100% no issues, he called like 2 weeks later and said he had a check engine light, he brought it in and it turned out to be the radiator fans. We gave him the price to replace it and he started complaining and said I was too expensive and that he would take it to a crackhead to get it done cheaper his exact words. I said ok, dont overheat the car or it will void your 6 month warranty and he said ok and left.
Almost 2 months later he calls us to tow his car from another shop saying its dead and wont start, so we went and picked it up. The shop told our driver that the *** got wet and thats why it wouldnt start. We checked it out *** was fried and parts of the car was all over the place like they were trying to bypass things to get the fan to work. So we told him he needs a *** and we got him a used one for very cheap ($250) that needed to be reprogrammed.
Our key guy that we sub work out to quoted him $750 to reprogram the **** he said no and towed the car to the dealer. The dealer reprogrammed it but had to also replaced relays that were damaged and the car still would not start easily and would cut off. Before they released the car they removed the good relays they used to assist them in reprogramming the *** so when the car got to us it was not running.
When we spoke to the dealer they said he (the car owner) only authorized them 1hr labor to reprogram the key, they said they didnt know the history on the car so they needed more time to diagnose the issue. He must have refused that.
But the dealer proceeded to tell him (the customer) that because the engine valve cover was silver that it was the wrong engine. I asked if they had anything else that could prove this and they said the engine doesnt have any numbers visible that they can tell that it is the wrong engine. Needless to say the salvage yard needed more info than just a painted valve cover to determine that the engine was wrong. (Remember this car left the shop driving and running great) the only issue was the fan failing up until he took it to the other shop.
Anyways we got the car back from the dealer and spent almost a whole day figuring out why the car wasnt running. Turns out the something the shop did to the cooling fans shorted out the **** 3 relays, throttle body and a couple coil packs. He (the customer) talked pretty badly about them too.
We used some parts from his old engine and got the relays from the dealer and the car is fixed. (Still needs cooling fans) I have tried explaining this to this customer for hours at a time over the phone and in person.
He wants to come get the car without paying us for the diagnostic work he authorized and also says Koalafi told him he can return the engine we put in and that he can get his money back.
This whole thing is very tiring, so in the end we agreed to give him the car back without the relays we bought that he needs to make the car run and only charge 2 hours labor for all the work we did to make the vehicle run again.
