I have a chairlift that was put into my home over a year ago and one day last week the Alarm went off about 3oclock in the morning and it startled me and I went to try to stop the noise and then I couldnt unplug it so the next morning I call Get A Grip for them to to come and let me know what was wrong with this chair that I had just gotten over a hear ago my second time calling them because it was another issue with my chair before My real problem is if it that if they are going to charge me they should let you know in advance that there is going to be a fee which I had no knowledge of , so you can agree to that fee before hand and not a charge that you are unaware off until it comes in the mailTelling you you have or the balance is due in two weeks? Had I known In advance I know that I could not afford it I would not have gotten it ,Dont take advantage of people that you know are disabled or sick thats my take on everything dont take advantage of people. Let people know in advance about your policies. If it was going to be a charge then they shouldve told me prior to come into my home. Thank you. thats all I have to say about that.

Ms. ****** initially got her stairlift (aka chair lift) through the Safe At Home Program offered by DC government and ****************** in March 2023.  That program requires one year warranty of any items provided as part of the assessment.

I am showing two additional appointments for Ms. ****** in our system.  One was an additional grab bar that she paid for out of pocket in March 2023.  Another was a request that the stairlift was not working in September 2023.  During that visit we could not replicate the problem and no issues were found.  Since that appointment was within the year of the Safe at Home program installation, there was no charge for that appointment.

The appointment Ms. ****** wrote to you occurred October 2024.  She called stating that the stairlift was beeping - which indicates that is is not getting a charge.  We deployed a technician and they found "dark dust on the track and some hair that is disturbing the charging strip contact".  That was rectified and the stairlift was charging and working fine when we left. While we do not have a recording of the call when Ms. ****** made the appointment, our standard practice is to disclose that a service call costs $135 and would be her responsibility to pay since it was past the warranty period.  She may have confused that because the previous appointment the year before was under warranty.  For the Safe at Home program participants, we often allow for payments to be made vs the entire amount as .  I have no notes in the file that Ms. ****** requested a payment plan or even complained about the charge until I received this complaint in the mail.

Stairlifts are mechanical items in the home that require regular maintenance and care - like a car.  Ms. ****** was provided with this information, including an owners manual, as part of the installation.  She was also provided the information in writing about the warranty period of one year for all items.  She scheduled the repair in October 2024, we arrived at her home, diagnosed the issue, completed the repair needed, and she was left with a working stairlift.  Our charge of the service call is valid.

Please reach out with any further questions regarding this matter.
