November 23, 2024 Adoption fee $260 The dog was given to me with known history of ear issues. She was immediately taking to the vet and had a severe ear infection. I had to spend another $3,000 for treatment and will be spending $5,000 on surgery to repair the ears. The business refuse to speak with me. This should have been taken care of prior to adoption. It is unreasonable to adopt out a dog without disclosing the need for surgery.

    Business Response

    Date: 05/23/2025

On November 17th ***** ******* adopted a dog named **** from Double Dog Dare Rescue. She was provided with the dogs medical records, ways to contact the ********************** and a copy of the contract she signed.
Based on the medical records provided and discussions, it was known that weekly ear cleanings would need to be done to prevent infection.(attachment #1)
**** had been adopted from the rescue previously and was returned for non medical reasons (she didnt do well with the new baby in the home). When she came back to Double Dog Dare Rescue, she was checked out by our vet and treated by the rescue for an ear infection and elbow calluses. This treatment started on 8/29/2024 and was resolved in two weeks.  No further medical action was needed, just to keep the ears clean. (attachment #2)
As documented above and attached, it is clear that the rescue did treat **** for all medical conditions that were present at that time and no surgery was needed.
***** has never reached out to the rescue regarding **** or any medical concerns. She had access to the fosters direct phone number, the rescues adoption coordinator phone number, the rescues email address, and social media. None have been contacted. Nor has ***** shown any documentation where she contacted the rescue.
The adoption contract dated 11/17/2024 and signed by ***** ****** (attachment 3) acknowledges the following:
Paragraph 1. There are no claims, representations, or warranties (either express or implied) as to the Temperament, health or mental disposition of subject animal(s).
Paragraph 3. Double Dog Dare Rescue is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known or unknown medical conditions once I have adopted the Subject Animal(s).
Paragraph 3 continued. If a serious medical condition/injury is found that I cannot, or choose not to have treated by a veterinarian. I must immediately contact Double Dog Dare Rescue and return the animal.
Paragraph 4. Veterinary Care I understand that routine veterinary care is imperative to the health of the Subject Animal. I agree to take the Subject Animal to a licensed veterinarian with TWENTY ONE (21) days of adoption for a new patient exam and to acquire monthly flea/tick heartworm preventatives.
Double Dog Dare Rescue stands behind our contract. If ***** is unable to care for Lucys needs, including but not limited to weekly ear cleaning, **** should be returned to the rescue. It is unfortunate that Lucys medical concerns were never brought to our attention as we would have gladly taken her back, as we had previously.

    Customer Answer

    Date: 06/01/2025

Told me dog was healthy accept for mobility.

Didnt include recent treatment for ear infection.

I mentioned concern for dogs ears and was told they were just dirty. They hadn't been cleaned by ****** and were infected. So why would I return a dog that was being neglected.

Refund of fees paid to treat the dogs issues that were neglected seems beyond fair.
