I had spinal surgery on 1/6 to remove an arachnoid web. I came home from the hospital on 1/9. I started feeling really bad (cognitively with headaches and such) on 1/10 so made an appointment with an online doctor **** ****** who ordered a brain ***.I had the Brain MRi done at Advanced Radiology ********************* in ***********, MD on 1/17.The *** was totally normal according to Advanced Radiology.I was still feeling horrible so I submitted the *** study for a second opinion. The second opinion person says that I had 3 small subdural hematomas (bleeds on my head) along with brain sagging and venous sinus stenosis. These are all life threatening, especially the subdural hematomas.I paid $199 for the second opinion read. Advanced Radiology shouldve never misread the imaging in the first place and I shouldnt have to submit the imaging for second opinion, but since the radiologists at Advanced Radiology make so many mistakes and commit malpractice, I have to submit my images for second opinion. Thus I am requesting a reimbursement of the $199 that I paid for the second opinion from Advanced Radiology. The fact that this is a second issue I had with accurate diagnoses from Advanced Radiology within a month period is ridiculous. The one before this was a spinal mri that they misread.

My yearly OBG visit could not be scheduled at the end of 2022, so the yearly 2022 visit was scheduled at the end of January 2023, and my mammogram and breast ultrasound were set for February 8th, 2023. Both services are always 100% covered by my insurance. It has never failed that their front desk people at Advanced Radiology in *********** have no clue about how the billing works, according to them, my breast ultrasound wasnt covered even though I told them it was. It did nothing to argue because even though they are lost about billing, they force you to pay what they believe you will owe to give you the services, so I had to charge my credit card $437.14. Without fail, my insurance paid the total cost for the services to them on February 16th, yet as of today (April 5th, 2023), and after weekly calls, they continue to lie that their review team has to approve the refund. I dont know what they need to review and approve when my insurance paid my claim in full, and I OWE ZERO to them. Every year they overcharge me for services that my insurance covers in full. Here we are, April 5th, 2023, after 60 days, and they continue to tell me the review team has to approve my refund and to keep calling back week after week; that is ridiculous and so unethical! Is Advanced Radiology paying the late fees my credit card will charge me because the overpayment has not been refunded to my credit card? Their billing process is unethical; 99% of the time, they overcharge patients, but the problem is not that is how crooked they are about refunding the money. Not only did they collect payment in full from my insurance on February 16th, but as of April 5th, 2023, they are also holding my refund of $437.14 hostage since they charged me on February 8th!

This letter is a response to the above referenced complaint.  We have reviewed all aspects of Ms. ******** complaint and summarized in the below response.

On February 8th, 2023, patient was see for Diagnostic Mammogra, tomosynthesis and Breast Ultrasound at Advanced Radiology at **********************

Please be advised it is our policy to collect the patients 'estimated cost' share at the time of service.  The patients benefits are confirmed via an ******************** Interchange)process with the patient's insurance. The information is requested at the time of scheduling and/or at the time of service through a 270 real-time connection to their insurance.  Based on their coverage, a 271 response is received providing the patients eligibility and out of pocket cost share including any Co-payment, ************* and/or Deductible information.

Patients are notified of their estimated cost share at the time of scheduling services (if scheduled by the patient), if the insurance returns the 271 in a timely fashion during the scheduling process.

At the time of service, the 271 response from the patient's insurance provided that patient still had a remaining deductible of $400.00 and her services would inquire a 10% coinsurance. Our estimated visit cost per our contracted amount with Carefirst of ******** is $437.14. We collected $437.14 from the patient at the *** based on her remaining deductible owed.

After services are complete and the radiology report is finalized, services are coded (CPT/ICD10) and submitted to the insurance carrier.  The explanation of benefits EOB is the source of truth that provides the patient and provider of how the services adjudicated.

On 2/22/2023, we received the insurance EOB showing $0.00 patient responsibility. After the patient contacted our office, her account was reviewed for a refund that was later issued on 4/6/2023 in the amount of $437.14

We are committed to having created a seamless process that promptly escalates patient inquiries on behalf of the patients and any organization including the BBB to the appropriate management or executive levels within our company, to track, document, train and educate internally to avoid future occurrences of this nature.

We greatly appreciate how you worked with us on this complaint and sincerely apologize for the delay in sending your refund.

    Regards,

    ***** ****, RCC

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

I hope in the future the refund process doesn't take endless calls and lack of clear decisive action.

I received my check last week, thank you.

    Sincerely,

I was seen in June of 2022 at advanced radiology for a sonogram of my 6 week old baby! I knew I met my deductible and knew the service would be covered completely, they asked for 273$ and I told them no that it's covered by my insurance they told me I was wrong, I said well can you bill me later? So I could call my insurance company and figure out what was going on! They said ok when would you like to reschedule? I was so upset because this was an urgent matter to check on the baby and so I paid to be seen! I called my insurance company and they told me exactly what I thought! I wasn't supposed to be charged. Now it's November. I still haven't received my refund and I Called for weeks hearing them say yes I was over charged and it's under review.... Finally I got word that it was applied to another visit'. Visits that I wanted to use my flex spending account for, I need a refund of the money I was over charged with and they were never suppose to take that from me. I have a baby due in February and I need all the extra money I can get and 273 is a lot of money from a new mom.
