My insurance USAA provided roadside assistance for my car on Saturday 1/14 to be towed to a dealership. My towing expenses are covered 100% meaning no out of pocket expense. ***** the owner and tow truck driver tried to extort $75 from me saying I had to pay it or he would bring car back to where he picked it up, after he already had on truck! My roadside called him and I believe paid this $75 extortion fee to get the job completed. Come Wednesday evening, I get a call from ************* saying they received a tip stating he had planned on going back after closing to take my car to impound it to demand more money from me. Luckily the car was inside the garage so he could not get to it! Not only that, when VW test drove it after fixing the issue they noticed noise coming from the back, surmising he must have put the car's emergency brake on either before putting it on truck or after, (I'd have to guess after since he argued with me about the $75 fee after car was on truck) which in turn cased damage to back brakes needing them to be fixed! there was ABSOLUTELY no issues with the back brakes nor any sound coming from back end BEFORE he towed the car! I want $500 to fix the brakes and towing credentials terminated! He should not be towing anyones car and I guess this is his habit.. tow someone's car who has roadside, extort a fee, then if he does not get said fee goes back and take the car back and impounds it illegally!!!

    Business Response

Typically you do not have to pay anything when your insurance requests that a car is towed. In this circumstance, you were informed, on a recorded line, before the car was loaded on to the flatbed, that you would be required to pay an overcharge fee of $75 which you agreed to. Upon contacting you to collect the overcharge fee of $75 we were told that you will not be paying because you believe that you were not required to. We are still seeking compensation for the towing job which was completed. As far as any damage to your vehicle and compensation that you requested please provide proof of damage as well as a description of the repairs necessary and photos. While we typically do not accept fault for any damage done to vehicles towed that are nit operational to or from a licensed auto repair shop, in this case we may be willing to provide minimal compensation with any and all fees still owed for the tow deduced.  Please respond to this message or forward any information to
