Dead River picked up our propane tank on 6/26/2023 after they bought out ************* in ******* *****. I was told I would be reimbursed for the remaining fuel in the tank in the amount of $177.55 within ***** days. After multiple e-mails and phone calls with the last one being 7/2 I was told the refund paperwork got lost in the system and they would send it right out. It is now 8/10 and I am still waiting. Ive had enough. I will call again tomorrow but I feel this company is not trustworthy. I read reviews on the business prior to deciding if I should stay with them to provide fuel and decided against it after seeing them. I would not recommend this company

Left message for customer on 8/14/23 to apologize for the delay in mailing the refund payment.  The check was mailed on 8/9/23.  Asked customer if they have received the check and to call if they have any concerns or issues.

Dead River, not a company to do business with:> Dead River, did business with them twice and then Terminated, Not Trustworthy to what they say or do, besides service.> I terminated Dead River due to Service w/Furnace, continuous unnecessary *************** Prices were very HIGH and F'd up my billing, PAID them off then Terminated Dead River.> Dead River, acquired ****** Oil, and a very sad day, they were the best.> Gave Dead River another chance, because of the ****** Family because of solid Principals and Sevice to their customers > Dead River, terminated them again after 8 months, due to, Service, Billing, and again unnecessary Deliveries, Service Charges, and HIGH PRICES to put monies on the books.> Dead River, had my Propane Business to be a valued Customer to be treated well, pricing was always suspect with Propane and the excuses were endless.> Propane Tank, thought the cost was built in to provide a Propane tank to leave on-premise. Deleted my Propane account, and had 60 gals of propane left or $220 Credit from Propane, they told me it was $75 to pick up the tank, which I was shocked but then they took $150 to Pick up the fee, leaving me $54 credit again, most all companies build their cost into their services, just another example how Trustworthy they are not to service customers, customers are not always right, but Dead River is, and the reason I STOPPED doing business with them for the second time.I will be returning the check for $54 telling them to stick it where the Sun don't Shine, they need it more to take care of *************** screwed the Residential Consumers, so done with Dead River, and caution anyone doing business with them, the only ones they cater to are Businesses, and we probably subsidies their discounts to their businesses but hammering residential customers, again they will deny did business with them to know they are Full of Sh*t,

Dead River owns my underground tank, Therefore I am forced to by propane from them at a top tier price and I learned to live with that. What I didn't like was the fact that they came to my property and did a corrosion test on THEIR TANK and sent me a $120.00 bill for it. If I owned the tank, I would have no problem with that but why am I paying them to test their own tank? Am I wrong?

      Dead River Company

      Date: 05/30/2023

It is an industry standard that the propane vendor normally
retains ownership of the provided tank. The corrosion tests are state and
federally mandated code to ensure the viability of the underground tanks and
the safety of the consumers nearby. Although tanks are owned by the fuel
vendor, costs to maintain the tank are customarily passed along to the user of
the tank not unlike when a consumer leases a vehicle from a dealership. Many
vendors place these costs into the price of the fuel where as others, as is the
case with Dead River Company, are transparent to the customer and show the
      charge on a supplied invoice.

I have been a customer since 2015. ********************** delivers my oil and also services my furnace every year. I feel taken advantage of as a consumer with a situation regarding Dead River. My hot water tank had a leak, They sent a tech out to assess the situation. Tech said water tank needed replacing, and the office would contact me the next day with an estimate. The total price was $6,890.00 FOR A WATER TANK?! I called around to other businesses for estimates, and ALL of them quoted a price of $3200.00. I was contacted by Dead River notifying me that the price of the tank and extra parts raised the price of the water tank. All the parts that i was informed I needed through Dead River to install the tank, was the same items I was informed of from other competitors for installation, including labor. Consumers do your research, there are better companies that actually care about the consumer. I also received another bill from Dead River for the visit to tell me that my water tank was bad. I had a "oil service parts" charge on the bill besides the flat rate to come to the house. I called and asked about that charge because there were no parts installed. Silence on the phone, and then informed that was a rate that is charged with the flat rate to come to the house.. seriously????!!!! VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! I usually don't write reviews, but I want consumers to be aware.

The customer was quoted a price based upon the assumption that they would replace the water heater with the same make and model as was installed in their home. The wholesale cost for this type of water heater and the parts required to install was approximately $4000. We estimate 8 hours of labor (a standard for this type of installation) and a standard retail markup to parts. Following the installation, If the labor amount was less, the savings is passed along to the customer; conversely, if the amount was more, they are not charged. Miscellaneous costs are also added, and these include the actual permit fees which are set by the local municipality, and consumable supplies. The total amount of this estimate was $6,888.35. If the customer would like to use a different, less expensive model of water heater, we can accommodate that request as well, and in fact, we can work with the customer to maintain a budget for each project based on their needs. We realize that the costs of products and services have increased exponentially the past few years, but we strive to ensure our pricing is competitive in the market - and for this type of water heater, our offering was competitive.

I did have my water heater replaced with the same tank. And it was not $4000. It was $2300. The job took 3 3/4 hrs. All parts were included with the price. I still am trying to understand the mark up. And yes, i did my research. Like i said, consumers beware. Do your own research.

Since Dead River has bought ********* Energy it has been a disaster. The lack of customer ********************** from the ****** office amazes me. To be on a plan that guarantees automatic delivery but then lets you and your business run out of oil and propane too many times to count is unacceptable. Why would I pay the premium to be on automatic delivery when I need to call every time I need to be filled up. Trying to communicate with customer ********************** and the delivery manager trying to help them out and tell them what ***** Energy did to make sure we never ran out has gone in one ear and out the other. I am just happy this heating season hasn't been too harsh... Defiantly a customer who will be looking for a new supplier the next heating season.

They refuse to share prices online, average 40 cents more per gallon than their competition, and will only service boilers that have a prepaid service contract if oil is purchased **** them. For the icing on the cake, they will not prorate a refund for unused service contract.Whoever answered the phone was a bit condescending. Would not recommend.

I'm absolutely furious with Dead River right now! I was a month late (my bad, I forgot about it) paying my propane bill, and a tech. came and started to plug my tanks. After I paid the bill that same day 12/20/22 (quite promptly and in full), a Tech came back to the house, and couldn't turn the tanks on because he couldn't get something pressurized and said there is a leak in the system. He found the leak in the copper pipe at the Generator. He had to leave that night to get supplies and said he would be back the next day @4:30 pm on 12/21/22 to change out the pipe. He never came back. And I cannot get a hold of ANYONE that will return my calls. Dispatcher ******* told me she put a Email in to her supervisor - ******, and made several notes letting ****** know about my persistent calls to them. Mind you, we have a storm rolling in tonight through Saturday. 12/22/22 If my neighbor farts too loud, I loose power. We are expected to get a lot of rain and high winds starting tonight. I have medical equipment in the house and outside of the house that I depend on, on a daily basis. The whole reason I have a Whole home generator. Part of my medical equipment includes a elevator that I can use to get out of my house when I have mobility issues and can't use the stairs because of one of my disabilities. But they can't be bothers to call me back. Poor ******* has been so patient with me, and she has done what she can do. I don't know why the Tech never came back when he said he was going to. He said it was going to take just a short time to replace the copper pipe and assured me that it would be done before the storm. Location: ******** *****.

I feel that I owe a update to this company. They did make things right - right away. My equipment was *********** before the storm happened. And a half our after they left my house, I did loose power. Thank goodness they were able to send someone out to get it fixed. I really appreciate that. Thank you.

I've called twice today and the people who answer the phone made unnecessary and somewhat belittling/off-putting comments both times. They need better CSR training!! Prior experiences with them had me navigating extremely poor interdepartmental communication which resulted in unnecessary expenditure in my part. Luckily, "******" heard my complaints and gave me some service credit to help compensate for my expense. That being said, overall, they are ok. Not the greatest, but eventually, IF you keep trying, you might find someone there who will treat you with respect and actually help.
