I hired Skowhegan Tire, in Skowhegan ***** to come out to my residence and replace two tractor tires in January 2022. I paid them $3230.20 to complete this job. My husband was receiving cancer treatments and was never able to use the tractor before he passed on May 7, 2022. One of the tractor tires went flat without even being used one time. I contacted this business on 5/21/22, 5/31/22, 6/1/22 and 6/2/22 with no satisfaction. They kept saying they had no one to send out and to fix. My daughter, *****************************, then contacted them on 6/7/22 after making a call to their Waterville branch and speaking with ******. ***** from Skowhegan called right after and apologized profusely and promised he would be out during the week to take care of. Unfortunately ***** lied and did not come out and fix the tire. When ***** finally was able to speak with ***** on Friday June 10th (after calling multiple times and being hung up on and put on hold for 10 minutes at a time) ***** backtracked and said he wouldn't come out and that we should call the gentleman that had actually done the work for them. Apparently unbeknownst to us Skowhegan Tire had subcontracted the job but then charged us $3230.20 as previously stated. They now are refusing to taking any responsibility for this problem. ***** stated that he was following his Boss, ******************************* orders on this matter and that she said not to go out and fix the problem.

Skowhegan Tire does not feel we are responsible for repairs to a tractor tire 6 months after the job was completed, if there was a problem with the initial installation the tire absolutely would have gone flat almost immediately (2-3 days AT MOST and that is generous). ***** informed the customer that ****************** Tire no longer employed a full time **** Service Technician, despite our many efforts to do so and that the gentleman who originally installed the tires had opened his own qualified road service business, it was then recommended that they give him a call to have the tire looked at. At NO point was it stated that the initial job was subcontracted or that the job they now needed done would be subcontracted, it was simply a referral to a qualified business that could get the job done quick and efficiently. ***** offered to "look" at the tire on Saturday June 11th, as a good faith effort. If we had tech to do the job we would happily do so, unfortunately, ***** is not qualified to do road service and due to OSHA regulations and other safety issues Skowhegan Tire cannot permit that. We are extremely short staffed, and we apologize if the customer had to wait on hold or the telephone was not answered as promptly as we would like. Being that we literally DO NOT HAVE ANY ONE to do the job it is only logical to refer them to someone who can. We would be happy to facilitate that for the customer, but again we do not feel responsible to pay the incurred costs as stated it has been 6 months and feel that is an unreasonable amount of time to hold us responsible for a flat tire.

Better Business Bureau:I have reviewed the response submitted by the business and have determined that the response does not satisfy or resolve my issues and/or concerns in reference to complaint # ********. The tractor was never used my husband was being treated for stage four lung cancer (which he died from May 7th) so no one used it or put any pressure on. Our son started it up and turned it around to make sure the battery was up and a week later the tire was flat he used the compressor to fill it and again it lasted less than a week just sitting. I understand six month rule but they should take into consideration that the tire was never used. We paid a lot of money to have the new tires on and now we cannot sell and get our money back.

There is zero reason why the tire would need to be refunded or sold. The tire is easily fixable again, Skowhegan Tire just DOES NOT HAVE THE ***** TO DO SO. The tire can either be brought to the store or we will facilitate a road service from another company to determine reason for flat 6 months after the fact.

      FAQ

      Regards,

      *******

We hired Skowhegan Tire to come to our house to install two new tires with tubes and that is what we paid for. I cannot at this time hire someone to haul our tractor over to Skowhegan or take off the tires off and take them over then bring them back and reinstall them, that is why we hired them. It had not been six months from the time of the installation to now we had them done on Jan 5th 2022 the tractor never got used. I was taking my husband back and forth to Augusta from Jan to May for treatment for Stage four lung cancer he died May 7th I certainly did not have time or energy to check out the tires on the tractor and I did not do so until I decided to put it up for sale. I am disgusted that they faith my husband and I had in a small business came down to this. I feel that they should hire someone to come and take the tire off and find out what is wrong with the tube, why it is not holding air. I hope they do not treat all their customers with the disrespect with have been treated with but again maybe it is because we are elderly and unable to so these things for ourselves.
