Customer brought his 05 Colorado in October 13th for check shake at 35-55 mph and stated it had a wheel shake. He left it the night before and I drove it in the morning. When I test drove it the whole vehicle vibrated ,when I got over 35 mph. I returned to the shop and put it on a lift to inspect it. What I found was the u-joint at the center carrier bearing had rust coming out of the caps and one cap the needle bearings had fallen out and the center carrier bearing rubber was no longer holding the driveshaft centered. We quoted replacing both and called the customer. When my counter person contacted him, he stated that it wasn't doing that before we had done the front brake job in September and that it started a day or two after. He assured him it had nothing to do with the previous repair and he stated he didn't agree and wanted to talk to who worked on it. When I got on the phone he stated to me that it started doing it on the way home. I asked why he didn't bring it right back and waited almost two months and over thousand miles later. He stated you obviously never drove it over 35 mph and that it wasn't doing it before he brought it in. I agreed that it wasn't doing when he brought it in and I said it wasn't doing it when he picked it up. He asked me if I was calling him a *******; Liar and then repeated saying that over and over till i hung up. Customer came and picked up the vehicle overnight . I took pictures of the u-joint and carrier bearing . It is my opinion that the vibration had to have started in within the last 100-200 miles , which is when the needles fell out ,otherwise the u-joint would've wore thru the side of the cap. There is no way he has driven over 1,000 miles with it like that , in my opinion.
