Despite advertising financial assistance for bills on their invoices and website, the billing representative I initially spoke to on the phone claimed the facility did not provide financial assistance; it took literally reading the financial assistance information straight from the facilitys website for the representative to finally relent and transfer me over to their financial assistance department. Then, after I submitted a financial assistance application for my childs physical therapy bills in October 2024, I continued to receive bill notices and called the financial assistance department to check on the status of my application and make sure the bills were not sent to collections. I called to check on the application status multiple times, and multiple times was assured by their representatives that the bills would not be sent to collections while my application was under review. Despite these reassurances, I received a debt collection agencys notice for one of the bills last week (start of January 2025). I called the financial assistance department and while they apologized and admitted the bill should not have been sent to collections, they said I had to talk to the billing department about recalling the bill from the collections agency. Today (January 14, 2025), I was transferred over to the facilitys billing department on a phone call and when I requested the bill be recalled from collections, the billing representative told me Well, we sent you bill notices multiple times. After telling him I had been reassured multiple times this bill was never supposed to go to collections while under review for financial assistance, he told me he needed to put me on hold to discuss the matter with a higher-up. After over 15 minutes on hold, the call was disconnected. This experience of constant miscommunication, unreliable informaton, and delays from billing has been a nightmare and has me seriously reconsidering any future care at Rehab Institute of MI.
