    We checked into the Baymont by ******* in ******* MI on June 7, 2024 and checked out on June 9, 2024. There were several issues while we were there but I will start with the smoke. I have a horrible allergy to cigarette smoke so I always look for 100 % smoke free hotels. This hotel had guests smoking cigarettes and pot all weekend. When I talked to the front desk clerk about the smoke smell on the first night she stated that they had caught someone smoking in their room and addressed it, She also said that the hotels designated outdoor smoking area is right outside the stairwell door so the smoke smell is constantly coming into the hotel. My kids were walking around outside and there were two men smoking pot right outside the hotel. Second, the hotel is filthy and falling apart. It looks nothing like the pictures on their website. I again spoke with the front desk clerk and she expressed her own concerns about the cleanliness of the hotel and explained that owners friends are the housekeepers and that their culture is not like ours. What they think is acceptable is not to most people. She apologized as they she was actually sobbing due to all the complaints that she was getting and the fact that she was left alone on second shift during a ******************* (basketball tournament) weekend, I called the *** ********, on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 and left a voicemail as she had the day off. I did not receive a call back so I called her again on the afternoon of June 12, 2024 and again left her a voicemail. I called back the afternoon of June 13, 2024 and ******** answered the phone. She was aware of the issues from the past weekend and blamed the owners for the lack of cleanliness stating that the owners had shown up that Friday, June 7, 2024 and talked with the housekeepers for a long period of time so they didn't get things done. She also acknowledged the smoke issue. She told me she would talk to the owners about a resolution and call me back, she never did,

    I, ********, spoke to this guest and i told her that I did indeed see people smoking outside. I did ask them to move further away from the hotel. They are following the hotel rules and not smoking in the building. If we see this outside, we do ask guests to move further away from the building. 

    The conversation about the owner coming to the hotel is not accurate. I said nothing about the cleanliness of the hotel in any way. I explained the owner came up to speak to the housekeepers and it put them behind on a busy day. This is why they finished their work later than usual. Nowhere in the conversation did I talk about cleanliness. 

    The housekeepers are not related to the owners in any way. They were hired from ******

    I am rejecting this response because: ********** advertises 100% smoke free stay and that was far from the truth. ********** has no elevator so you have to utilize the stairwell to get to the second floor. Their designated smoke spot is right outside the door where the stairwell is so all you smell is smoke and it also comes through the air conditioner, There were people smoking on the second floor the entire weekend and the front desk lady told me that it happens all the time. I have severe allergies and was miserable all weekend, we spent as much time away from the hotel as possible because of the smell. ******** told me on the phone that she would talk to the owner (which is usually something she would handle as the *** and let me know what they were going to do to make this right and she never called me back like she said that she would. I would like to know what they are going to do to make this right since they acknowledge that people were smoking.
