My family and I did a self check in for the motel late at night after a long day of driving up north. ******** answered the phone and stated she has a room for us with 2 beds, knowing we had children. ******** advised us to go into the unlocked lobby and grab the hotel key for our room. We agreed on $60 for the night and we would leave the cash. We unload our car and our 2 sleeping children into the room. As we were unloading, a gentleman who seemed to be the only person staying there was watching us unload from his door into the hotel room. That was strange that he watched us but continued to unload. Upon saying hello and having a short conversation since he was in the room right next to us, he proceeds to tell us that he has been living at the hotel for 4 months and that he was in jail for 40 years for killing 3 people. While I know people can change and appreciate the fact he was upfront about his situation, it made me very uncomfortable to stay the night. So, we turned around and packed up our car and loaded back our kids. At this point, our van was the safest option for our family. We called ********, the owner to notify her we will not be staying at her hotel and not to charge us, but no answer. We left a message on her voicemail. We have tried to call her after that and no answer. Then, she charge my credit card $75 for less than an hour of staying there. She knew we had kids and knew that her resident was a killer of 3 people.
