Around July 3rd we took my sons car in to get his air conditioning charged and It cost around $390. After they finished charging it still wasnt blowing warm air and they told my son it needed a new compressor which was going to cost around $1,000, but they would do it for $900 + tax. We took the car in on July 10 and paid the bill. My son works 3-4 miles away and works 3 times a week. On Friday 21st my son said his air conditioner wasnt working. We booked the car in for what we thought would be a warranty repair (we were told the compressor would have a 3 year warranty) but my son phoned me distraught because he said it was going to cost another $800 after a discount. I spoke to them and they said that it had apparently had a leak which they did not notice at the time when they told us about the compressor. I told them that the car is only worth around $3,500 and if wed been told that it was going to cost around $1,900 (not including the charge) to repair then my son would have said no because hed been driving the last 2 ******* without air conditioning. At this point with the original charging, we had already paid $1350 so had no choice but to agree to the charge for the further repair. My son had driven the car for less than 40 miles and it had only been 10 days since they said they had fixed the problem. It is not our fault that they didnt diagnose the full problem the first time after it didn't work. Air conditioners in cars can leak and if theyd put dye to see if it had a leak after they had charged it they would have seen the leak when they put in the compressor and we could have refused the repair and only been $390 out of pocket. We think the leak repair should have been done free of charge since it was their mis diagnosis in the first place and have been covered under warranty since we were under the impression that the air compressor was the only thing wrong with the air conditioning.
