we contacted **** Homes in February around 2/15/24 to discuss a log cabin home build. We were told the cost would be around ******* for the logs/labor and we would need to have plans to obtain estimates. We discussed our entire budget was $******* and **** Homes indicated they felt ******* would be adequate amount for the entire proposed build. We sent **** Homes a deposit of $5000 that he indicated would go toward the building of the home. We made it clear in both text and conversations that we could not commit to a build until all the estimates had been received. No month, date or timeline for the build had been discussed, No paperwork had been signed nor any type of formal, binding agreement. Nothing was signed agreeing to a non-refundable deposit and the understanding was it was a deposit toward the building of our home. We obtained detailed written estimates on all the additional work that was required for the build. The cost of the project exceeded our discussed budget by over 150,000$. We immediately informed **** Homes we could not build the home as was significantly over our discussed budget. We never received any type of formal, written or detailed estimate from **** Homes, however, are being charged $5000 (our initial deposit, as **** Homes refuses to refund the ***** We requested our deposit be returned as no date for the project had been discussed, no supplies or materials had been ordered and no work had been done for the project. **** Homes has refused to return any of our money. The entire time of the above-mentioned scenario was from 2/15/24 through 3/22/24, when we immediately contacted **** Homes with notification their estimate of ******* was significantly below the >450,000 obtained estimates for the project and we would have to cancel the project entirely before any work would begin.
